Would this effect the price?

Yes
I have a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens for sale. This comes in a white box as it was split from a bundle from London Camera Exchange in Nottingham. The reason being it cam in the white box is that Canon did a £50 cashback offer but instead of that the shop just gave me £50 off the price and gave the a split bundle. The lens is exactly like any other bought in any other shop.

My question being, would this have any effect on the sale of the lens? If I was to put it on Ebay with the lens code etc?

Apologies now if this is in the wrong forum.

Cheers.

James.

Yes.. but only because there is a section of the population who feel they *must* have the original box. Take these folk out of the bidding and you won't get quite the same as someone selling an identical lens with the serial number matching both the warranty paperwork and the original box.

probably like 10-20 quid I don't care about boxes but I have noticed they make lenses more desirable at a certain price point so to compete unboxed lenses tend to be a weee bit cheaper.

Some people sell the boxes, so you may be able to pick one up, if you are that bothered.

I feel buying a box may be more hassle then it is worth. I think if I have to sell it for £10 less then thats just the risk I'll have to take.

I can't believe a box is so important? Maybe I could draw a nice picture on the white box of the lens? ;

I don't think it will make a big difference on eBay - like you said maybe £10. Not worth worrying about.

just to come at as someone in that section of the population who likes to get a box cause

1. It makes reselling easier

2. It shows that a little extra effort has been put into looking after your initial investment and you care a little bit more about the lens (mainly because of 1 again)
