Would this lens be a good buy?

In my opinion mirror lenses are not that great & this one is a very slow lens,F6.3:thinking:

you've got an Alpha so if you want to use a mirror lens (& I was happy with my Minolta until I bought a considerably dearer 70-400 G SSM) really there is only 1 option to consider - the Minolta/Sony 500 AF Reflex.

They are cheap and lightweight and you might even produce a decent image with one, but this is usually under optimum light conditions which are rare. Most mirror lenses suffer from rather poor / mediocre optical performance as most are f5.6 or f8. A lens like a 400/5.6 prime or even a 100-400mm zoom are usually better solution.

So all in, forget the mirror lens as i'll be disheartened with the results and go for a non-mirror :) excuse my ignorance here!
Couldn't justify a £1000-ish on a lens, just now i'm concentrating on getting my rally car finished for the 2010 season...and it's eating a heck of a lot of cash up :(
second hand is an option though. Where's the best place to look for one and any recomendations as to my next lens going by the two i already own?

Exactly - as for 2nd hand keep an eye open in the forsales section on here, there are plenty of bargains to be found if you're quick. Also on ebay too, though you could end up paying a little over the average 2nd hand price as there are potentially a hell of a lot more people bidding against you.

Ok, is there any lens in particular i should watch for? I Do a fair bit..of hunting and as such i do get a lot of photo opportunities that probably are very rare, one example is finding a Roe Deer that must have been less than an hour old, got a few pics of it (old 35mm compact camera...served it's purpose) and it's mother before we slipped away leaving it undisturbed. And i attend a lot of motorsport events, is there one particular lens i should look to getting or do i need several?
