Hi

Just getting a feeling here, just purchased a 5D MKII + 24-105 for the Mrs, from the Canon Outlet Store on Ebay for £1875 all in

Box came with a Canon Seal and everything is Mint Condition and perfect, no marks scratches dings or dust, all sealed.

In fact its a darn sight nicer condition than one I recently purchased Brand New from Jessops,

Its just on connecting to the EOSInfo Program it shows the body as having already taken 509 Shots, Now they describe them on the Canon Outlet store as Open Box Demos or Damaged box units

Does 509 Shots on this seem reasonable for the decent saving over buying at a retail store

Also from the Serial Number of the Body and Lens ID Number It dates the unit to about Aug 2009. Making this almost a year old already, although Canon have provided it with a full 12 Month warranty

Head and Heart unsure if I should return and get a brand new sealed retail , but the nearly £600 saving is making me hold back

Any Thoughts?.

hardly been used, personally I wouldn't worry about it

Didn't you know that the Canon ebay outlet was for reconditioned items? Providing it works and the condition is good I'd pocket the £600 and treat the wife to something nice.

509 seems pretty average for a demo model. With the shutter having a "life" of approx 100,000 its no big deal :)

Well if it's open box DEMO ... people will have played with it, taken shots with it etc, 500 and odd shots is nothng for quality body....

The 600 quid would buy another lens or a pair of flashes?

Yeah as said it's probably an ex-demo model so with a saving like that be happy!

As others have said the shutter count is nothing and it has saved you £600. If you want zero and fresh from the factory then spend the extra and buy new.

The age of the combination is irrelevant as there is no change apart from firmware in a brand new model and one that was made originally.

It seems a pretty good deal to me and you are covered by the 12 month warranty; in a month's time you will not give it a second thought.

Your title is misleading as it wasn't sold as new, it was sold as reconditioned.

What did you expect?

Would you Be Happy with a new Camera Reading 509 Shots?...... No I wouldn't be.

Would you Be Happy with a reconditioned Camera Reading 509 Shots?...... Yup no prblem with me. A reconditioned camera could have been one used in display for anything (shop, show, sales rep demo) any of them could have fired off well over 509 shots.

Thanks for the replies,

Yes after reading in more detail it is clearly as they say

BUT

Just the age of the camera being nearly a year old concerns me,

And now having tried to register it to my CPS account to find it is already registered to someone else makes it Second Hand rather than ex demo or Open box

It could have belonged to CPS?

Was it described in the listing as "ex-demo" or "open-box" or was it described as "refurbished" or "reconditioned"? If it's been registered then it's more likely to have been a warranty return and have been repaired, which is fair enough, that's why it was £600 cheaper than a new one.....

That would be my bet, I have bought a few compacts from Canon reconditioned and I have to say they were as new, everything that shows the slightest bit of wear had been replaced. Every major manufacturer in any form of electronic device does this, the savings for the buyer makes it a great deal. It cant really be called second hand as it has been back to Canon, fully tested and callibrated and mostly a hole new casing plus you still have your year warrantee. Now if you get a member on here to offer that to you when selling a lens, show me who they are I will love them for ever :).

Cheers Guys

Well she has just gone out shooting with it and seems as happy as larry with it so will leave it at that and put it down to me being mardy!

Cheers All

Just think every photograph someone else took with it saved you over a pound...and they took 509! If only the shutter count was nearer 2000 you'd have been given it for free ;)

I think because its "Canon outlet" there will be a few shots on the clock.
If its described as Open Box Demo then yes, I suppose it's acceptable to have 500 shots.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

As far as CPS I would contact your local CPS representative and ask if the origional owner info can be removed.

Canon get most things right so they will probably just change the details to yours.

It's worth a 20p phonecall.

At the end of the day you got a refurb camera 100 shots or 10000 when you get these things you take a chance but you do get a 12 month warranty.

+1.

Don't beat yourself up over it. If you're really concerned about the previous owner thing you could phone the canon outlet but 500 frames is what - 1 day at an airshow or a wedding?

Flip this one over: you've gone to a photography show such as the one at the NEC each year. You play with a 5D kit on a stand, the salesman comes over and asks if you'd like a deal on the ex-demo kit. How much thinking time would you need? All working? All complete? Warranty? Bish bosh, where's your credit card reader fella? And can I have a Canon carrier bag too?

I wouldn't take it back for having 500 shots on it, for being a canon however......................

:) just kidding, enjoy.

You got a bargain, stop worrying and get the missus to take pictures with it :-) ...

She already is, although this is one of the images she took on mine a couple of weeks ago after she struggled with the 7D, and started the nagging to get her own 5D

Really strange facination with Bugs though - She did this with the 24-105, although I can see my macro going missing soon!
