Would you buy new lens from Malaysia on ebay? Is this too cheap?

Those charges (and what the carrier will charge for collecting them) will probably add up to more than any saving you'll make. IF it goes wrong, you'll have to pay the shipping back to the seller - there goes more cash. Etc...

Try Kerso, a member here who (I understand) has great prices on Canon gear and a much better warranty system.
 
Feedback profile suggests the seller is legit, personally I'd stick with one of the big boys like panamoz or digital rev if your going to go for a grey import.
 
Good spot. I'll look into that. Kerso doesn't have this particular lens unfortunately. I'll look into panamoz and digital rev too thanks.
 
Interesting. Looking at their feedback, out of say 10 positive reviews (from the UK), there are one or two unhappy ones saying they had to pay £23 to Fed Ex. I wonder how that works.

I wonder why it catches up with some but not others? And I thought duty was only added to items over £100?
And the HMRC website is massively unhelpful saying you have to pay import duty and VAT on items "Over a certain value". Thanks for nothing HMRC!

In case anyone is interested, customs duty becomes payable if the goods are over £135 in value but is waived if the amount, when calculated is less than £9. Import VAT is charged at the same rate that applies to similar goods sold in the UK and applies to commercial goods over £15 in value, and on gifts that are over £36.

I noticed a couple of very good secondhand tokina 300 mm 2.8 lenses on there from the far east
Sellers looked decent enough too but still a risk I guess
