Would you pay extra if Photobox offered 'quality' paper ?

Yes
Having had a fair few prints done by Photobox recently, I am pretty happy with what they do. However, I have also been reading about how good some printing paper, such as Ilford Gallerie is, though I have never seen or used it.
I mentioned this to Antonio at Photobox as a possible service, and thought it worth asking what you think - would you be willing to pay the extra cost if better paper makes a big difference ?
Certainly, what I print at home on Epson Photo paper (not sure what grade, but fairly thick) has a far nicer feel and stays flat in a frame, where the large poster prints Photobox do need better mounting to stay flat in the frame...(could just be I am rubbish at mounting (ooh err..) and framing !

My understanding is that Photobox use Fujifilm Professional photo papers, ie proper silver halide based stuff that is exposed to light to generate the image rather than having a pigment applied to it as you need to do with the Ilford paper.

While I suppose there might be a market for alternative media I don't see Photobox going for it. You'd need either printers dedicated to the other paper (which might be idle at times) or you'd need to batch up orders for the other paper (which might annoy the customer). Either way I'm not sure that there's a business case for it.

Yes, I would if it was an option.

Not for every pic granted, but for special shots that I want printed over A4 size that I can't print myself at home then yes.

Ross - that was the sort of thing I was thinking of.
As rpstewart says, it might be hard to see it work, but if enough interest was shown, it might happen - they did say they would look into it...

I am currently printing my A3 prints at home as I have been unable to find a service that suits my requirements. This said I doubt that a pro service would use the papers that I, or the next guy, does.

Photobox are great for general stuff, really great for general stuff ~ but not much more. I'm not sure whether I'd use them for higher end printing or not. At the moment I use my local FA printers who cost the amount you'd expect (£££'s) but really know their stuff, and will talk extensively with you about what you're after before you set yourself on a particular type of printing or medium. I really value that service.

So the lack of that one to one service and the fact that Photobox have been slipping in lots of small ways recently means I'm just not sure that they can offer me what I want when it comes to higher end printing.

I had some canvas's done recently by Photobox, taking one of their very cheap offers at the time. They farmed the job out to specialists, so I guess a quality paper service could be done the same way if needed.

P.S. The canvas's are stunning :)
