Would You Sell These Lenses For A Sigma 150-500mm?

Yes
I'm in a real dilemma here. I'd really like to get the Sigma but funds are a bit tight at the minute so I'm thinking maybe I'll sell some lenses to help fund it.

Lenses I have to sell are my kit lens Nikon 18-55mm, my Nikon 35mm 1.8mm (bought this at Christmas and though I love it, it's barely been on my camera since I bought my Tamron 24-75mm f2.8) and finally my Nikon 70-300mm which I bought from here only 2 or 3 months ago, love the lens and it's nice and sharp etc but ultimately it hasn't got the length I want.

This will leave me with Tamron 24-75mm, Nikon 55-200mm (which I was gonna sell when I got the 70-300mm but never got round to it) and then Sigma which I'll be trying to source second hand.

After playing around for a few months I'm really loving the wildlife side of things, shooting birds etc.

I know it's my decision but I need some help deciding :help:

Thanks :)

The only lens i will sell to get the sigma from your list will be the 55-200 and 70-300. First the 18-55 is wider then your 24-75 so you may find it useful at some point and also the 35mm f1.8 is faster then your tamron and thats also useful as well.

Of the lenses you list the one I'd struggle to sell would be the fast standard prime but if the 150-500mm is your goal and the 35mm f1.8 needs to go could it be replaced with a cheap manual wide aperture lens? Maybe a 50mm f1.8 (plus adapter if necessary) would keep the low light/wide aperture option if at a longer focal length.

Sorry to temp you to spend :D but maybe there'd be some room in the budget for a cheap fast lens?

As I'm a Canon user I really can't help with what lenses to sell as I don't know the value, but just from the focal lengths I'd second badboy1984's choice of the 55-200 and 70-300. Depending on your budget I'd have a look here http://panamoz.com/index.php/hot-de...m-for-canon-digital-and-film-slr-cameras.html as they have it new for £611, but if you pay by bank transfer (email them first) you get a 5% discount. I know they are imports but I've bought 2 bodies and 3 lenses including a Sigma 150-500 OS, but I can highly recommend them.

My 150-500 lives on my 5D3 permanently when it's in my bag, I leave it on for any quick shots I may get, and it's only been taken off to try my new Canon 70-200 2.8 IS L MkII which I also bought from Panamoz.

This was taken wide open at f6.3, 1/800 at 500mm from around 40 feet distance and it's a Jpeg SOOC with no PP apart from a crop and is currently my most viewed shot on Flickr.

Just to add misery Gary, have you seen the shots that Lez325, on here, is getting with that lens? Personally if you're not shooting with what you've got, and you've not got the kit to get the shots you want, then I'd sell and get it, otherwise you'll be hankering after it.

That's an interesting thought. I hadn't really thought about selling the 70-300mm and 55-200mm. I was thinking I'd keep the 55-200mm as I quite like the length for when we're out with the kids and to bridge the 75-150 length. Mmmm, gives me something else to think about.

Yeah, Les and a few others on here have been producing some really good stuff with the lens, defiantly one of the reasons behind me wanting one :D

I've just had a camera bag shuffle. I had the 18-55 ,70-300 then thought that id sell those when I got my 150-500. I thought I'd get the 18-105 to cover the rest and have a small gap. I found that didn't quite work out. So I got a sigma 70-200 2.8 cause it came up at the right price. I shall now sell the 18-105 and get a 17-70 2.8 or something similar to cover the small end.

That's very nice Stuart and the sort of thing I'll be hoping to get

Yeah, that's why I'm quite reluctant to sell the 55-200mm for now, don't really want that gap......Also realised if I sell that as well I'll have nothing to put my Raynox on for now :D

I think I could be quite tempted by the Sigma 70-200mm at some point but that's a way off yet.
