Writing application for photographers: your input welcome

Hi all,

I am about half way through writing a web application aimed at photographers like yourselves. I have a few key areas of functionality that are complete and, to my knowledge, not currently available on the market.

Whilst finishing the package - I want to know what are the main gripes out there in terms of what their web publishing provider doesn't offer, what bugs you most about getting your pictures online, what hinders you etc.

As an example, a former colleague of mine told me that their biggest gripe was that they couldn't upload photo's "on the move". i.e. they'll take a picture and want to upload it straight into a specific album/gallery and apply a specific price band to the photo etc.

Your ideas are welcome...

I'm just setting up this business so any helpful hints, tips and comments are much appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Dave

That's easily doable and, with the exception of the Wifi transfer and website backend, mostly with free to use open source software.

My thoughts exactly. Most major image hosting services provide apps for uploading on the move.

What was preventing them from doing that?

Just need a suitable device that is connected to the net.

Good integration in an organizational tool like Apple Aperture or Adobe lightroom. No seperate uploaders please and proper two way synchronization.

You're right it is easily doable. I guess this is why I'm asking the question. You're the photographers which the application is aimed at so all your comments are welcome. I am just trying to get a grasp of what is available and what is missing/required that would make you jobs easier.

Are you able to do it in bulk? i.e. you take 10 photos, you can upload all 10 images (or 100, or what ever) straight into an existing gallery, and apply a price band to all images in one hit? with out having do it per image?

I reguraly upload around a hundred images at a time and can add bulk comments or prices...

OK cards on the table without everyone picking at everything :)
I think your going to find it very hard to come up with anything that isnt already avaialble.. there are some fantastic systems out there.. I havent wanted for anything msyelf.. have never wish somehtign ould do this or that as everything seems to be covered.. But.. you might find somehting .... If you do I cant think it would be somehting major that would ahve photogrpahers flocking...

just my opinion after being involved wiht photo uploading for 8 years.... :)

I can already do everything i need to do with my gallery, upload images to new or existing albums, bulk add photo, bulk add prices/postage individually add price/postage all online through my browser, just need my laptop and mobile phone or wifi spot and i can it anywhere
