Just watched karate kid with my son... theers a guy in the finals scenes with a canon 600mm lens at the side of the mat shooting karate... oh dear :)

I find myself doing the same thing with any program that has some dude/dudess with a camera - just to see which make they have & what lens they have on the front :$

Not sad at all, I'm watching the tennis on telly now and all I'm looking at is the photographers gear.

It's like watching the royal wedding on telly and there was me watching the crowds and shouting at the telly at the people with in built flash on their cameras firing when the subject is a couple of hundred metres away :bang:

That reminds me of any concert you watch or footy match and the flashes are going off like crazy and they are in row Z

spike

Football match? That's nothing. I remember watching the '99 eclipse from a cliff top near Sidmouth. You could see the flashes travelling along the coast as the darkness approached.

Bloody fools. All those flashes lighting up the moon ruined the effect...

Same here  You can't help yourself from doing it!

I watch films mainly as a means of escape. After all they are just films, I accept they are not true life or very accurate.

Enjoy them for what they are.

As for the flashes most people just let the camera set the photo. Darkness=flash.

Maybe he was after some extreme closeups... of the audience? I dunno, I got nuthin!

The flash thing always reminds me of The Simpsons when Marge and Homer drop in nude on the football game and the commentator remarks that flash photography will do nothing but the crowd don't care! Attention to detail I guess?!

an old compact that I gave to my OH to take to football matches (...:bonk:...) has a very irritating habit of choosing extra-long exposures instead of wider aperture if you select no-flash mode - making any zoomed photos blurred and unusable. We can't figure out any way to stop this behaviour (no manual controls) other than letting the camera auto-fire the flash - even though the flash clearly has no effect at lighting the scene, it then chooses a usable set of parameters...

I have to admit I noticed the same!

There was also a dude using a 70-200 or 100-400 RIGHT up in someone's face.

Needless to say my girlfriend told me how sad I was for noticing that

At the other end of the spectrum, I was watching the 1966 England v Germany world cup final match and was more than interested in the photographers sat on the grass behind the goals. None of them seemed to have anything approaching a 400mm-600mm and most of them looked like 100mm. There was one guy with what seemed like a drain pipe attached to a camera of some sort. All film. Now that is strange ....

There was some dance routine on the telly the other day (I think it was Lady Gaga on Graham Norton) where all the dancers were apparently equipped for taking photographs with Nikon bodies, with no lenses (or even a body cap) on them whatsoever.

:D

As they said in Wayne's World.... woooahhh extreme closeup!

its like that canon advert where robbie williams gets everyone to use their flashes at the same time - there's some people about 5 miles away using it.

he might have been using it to pick out any 'honeys' in the crowd.... awww.. come on, don't tell me you sports guys have never done that!! :naughty:

Totally guilty of it. Got me through the royal wedding. Wife commented on my geekiness when I froze the image with all the photographers in the stand to look at what they were using. Find myself doing it with football more and more too.

Worrying!!!

What Star Wars is not true life.

Might as well join the Sith then, oh wait apparently it is not real.

God Man my life is over:nuts:
