Yes
Took me a few photos using the inbuilt flash on my 500D. The result is below...

Settings was at 1/30 F3.5 ISO 1600. Used lens the kit at 18mm

I thought I was shooting through closed window but It wasnt the case. I went outta the car and result was pretty much the same. Removed the filter and cleaned the lens and still the same.

But yet each time I aim the camera downwards it doesnt happen. See below same settings

why did it happen? I suspected dirt on sensor but yet taken same setting different place pics came out clean

Do you have a filter on the lens? How about a lens hood? If you have a filter this is more likely to be the culprit - more so without the hood.
I would say there is either some strong light sources out of frame that are causing the odd flare, or the built in flash is reflecting of something round your car window.

Now stop being lazy and taking photos from your car window :)
Maybe even get a tripod and don't bother with the flash.

Edit, just seen you had a filter on. Still, were there any stong light sources or reflective stuff about?

a tripod I have and was in the car with me (yes too lazy to take it out). Without the flash area was a tad dark and yes I did blamed the filter so I removed it plus hood and did the same flares. I also blamed the side mirror so I closed it and gues what I even went to the big hassle of getting outta the car and still the same. Always each time I shot pionting the camera upwards. If I do it downwards chances are it wont show as the 2nd photo shows. Also never did it with flash down.

Was afraid that its dirt on the sensor but I doubt that

Not sensor artefacts as they tend to show up as dark spots not light.

If you look closely at the second image the blemishes are still there. The exposure is different between the two - I'd say metering was affecting the exposure and when you pointed the camera down the exposure was less bright so the blemishes were less noticeable.

IMO it's marks on the front element, looks quite like dried moisture residue.

I would say its dust being shown on the filter minute particles, shown by the flash reflecting off the car mirror

dried moisture residue!!?? is that from the lens or from the sensor? Can it be removed?

The filter cant be the issue I think as I removed the filter and still the same while the lens was very clean.

If on the other hand its reflecting the dirt off the car then that beats me but yet below 2 photos 15 mins later same settings/lens different location. filter added on

looking down (hard to have a pretty garden with a puppy around :bang: )

looking up. This seems rather like the bulbs of the garden reflecting on the filter though unlike the worrying 1st photo (of which I have half a dozen like it)

If I were you I would clean the front and rear elements with a lens pen as this is reflections and the flash will bounce and reflect any tiny particles inside the lens so maybe a close inspection may be in order to, what lens is it and has it been exposed to moisture as it may even be fungal spores inside picking up the light......probably not though but a check may be needed

I do leave the filter (not original canon but a cheap imitation from ebay) attached all the time to the lens. Same I do with the 70-300 but original canon filter.

yet I never found em moisty whenever I checked

Lens used in photos is the kit 18-55

off trying some shots

me scared :(

not l lens granted but its a b****r being defeated by moisture.

maybe the finger prints on the filter could have effected?

aw this is bad. Took pics with flash at the dark sky and pretty much pic looks like its a clear full of stars sky. The only problem sky is full of clouds :(

Tried the same trick with the 70-300 and phot looks as it should.

How do u clean a lens from the inside ?

lets see them?

also, use the other lens and tripod to take some pics of front and rear of your kit lens. Needs to be well lit but without flash, so perhaps good room lighting and a slow shutter speed to get exposure right. Get a few different angles if possible to we have the best chance of seeing what is going on.

Its late btw, I am off to bed, but I am sure others will still be around tonight and there is alwys tomorrow. I wouldnt panic yet btw ;) Gets some sleep.

I hope you are not trying this out of a window with flash, as it will make them much worse

further test with nifty fifty and 70-300 dont do it. (in case of 50 it happens very slightly)

With kit lens it only happens with flash on and with high iso. decreasing iso will stop making spots

and no window. Not that daft at least :)

I don't think it has to be any more complicated than that :)

Whilst I thought that too, it wouldn't explain the image in post #10.

Can we please see an image without the filter on.

I think that's a bit of digital filter flare - bright light reflecting off the sensor and back again off the rear surface of the filter. Very common especially with cheap uncoated filters.

Lets try to narrow things down, are you using on board flash or a speedlight

its the onboard flash. Taking photos without the filter settings as above at iso 800 or more towards a dark starless sky will show like a the sky is full of stars. Later on I will add the photo I have taken.

But the funny thing with neither of teh other 2 lens shows anything while with the kit only shows it at high ISO 800+ and always if its an empty sky. Anything else like shooting inside or towards a subject no dots appear.

And always these last photos were shot with a clean front and back glass and no filters or hoods
