X Factor Auditions - Candids

Yes
Had a few days at the London X Factor Auditions last week. These things are always a challenge to shoot because of difficult lighting conditions, large, jostling crowds and the difficulty of getting clear shots of anything interesting!

They dont like DSLRs at these TV show tapings so I brought along my recently purchased Fuji HS10. It was still a difficult thing to get any decent results from though. The studio lights are pretty dim (surprisingly) and I needed to use fairly high ISOs to get anything decent. You arent allowed to film whilst the cameras are recording so its a brief window to get shots in the few seconds as the judges take their seats and as they leave. Unfortunately I got none of the acts. I did try but a big burly security man told me in no uncertain terms not to shoot (even though they had said no FLASH photography and my flash was off ;) ).

Anyway...full set here:

Will need to play with the settings a bit more the next time I shoot something like this I think. A bit too noisy for my liking but not too bad for a compact in difficult light.

Like you said, conditions not helping so fail to see what you could have done better.
