Hi folks I'm just about to purchase a camera in the next fortnight and I was dead set on an X e 1 but I've just noticed that the x pro can be had for about the same money second hand and I was wondering if anyone who's used both would recommend one over the other.

Any advice welcomed.

there are very few differences internally ( same processor, same MP etc. the few differences are the S pro LCD is 1,230,000 as opposed to 460,00
hybrid optical viewfinder v EVF. and 3" v 2.8" lcd
the Xe1 has longer battery life and pop up flash.
the Xe2 is a slightly better bet, newer version 2 processor, slightly faster 7 fps over 6 on the other 2, + 3 expsoure compensation ( +2 on xe1 and xpro )

is the pro worth it... if you cant get on with an EVF ( electronic viewfinder ) then i would say so.

i owned the xe-1 from day of release in the UK ( cost me over £1200 for the privelige arghh ) and though you work ata slower pace of life than a regular DSLR it was an amazing camera.

Thanks for that. I don't think I can stretch to the x e2 and a couple of lenses but I can manage the other 2. I was all set for the xe1 but just making sure the x pro wasn't a better bet. I've never used the electronic viewfinder before so unsure how that will go.

it takes a whle to get used to and i did find it slow and laggy a little when tracking moving objects ( birds in flight and the like and even slow moving objects can be a challenge. i guess if its a new xe1 v a used pro then its down to warranty considerations more than anything else.

I use both and don't really see too much difference beyond ergonomics. I am happy to use evf but as my eyesight isn't so good the difference in quality doesn't matter. The xp1 is quite a bit bigger and noticeably heavier and I thought this would suit me but I find I pick up the xe1 more often just because it is smaller. And try out the grip and thumb grip as they affect handling a lot too.

Thanks guys. Reading up on the two for me anyway it seems the big differences are:

Size
Viewfinders
Focus (which should be the same with firmware update)
Frames per second

I'll keep reading over the next week or so then decide. I've never really got on with the EPL5 or GF3 due to their small size coming from a 50d but as the xe1 is significantly bigger than these i'm not sure it would be a problem.

X-E1 also benefits from a viewfinder diopter, important to me so I don't have to wear glasses when using it

I have both and love them both although I feel more at home with the x pro1

I had a xe1(only sold it last week)and have used a xpro1 on a handful of times. The rear screen is nicer on the pro1 but the evf on the xe1 is nicer than the evf on the pro1. Both can be a bit slow in operating but I did get use to it. For me if I had to buy one again it would be the xe1.
