Hi All,

Following on from the X100 thread, it's clear a few of you on here own this gem of a camera. :D
I was just wondering what kind of cases you are using with it (if any?)

I know there are a few aftermarket ones out there along with the genuine article.

Be good to hear your recommendations. The camera looks pretty robust without a case anyway in my opinion but obviously a case gives it that extra protection.

I use the genuine Fuji case with its strap on Op-tech connectors, sometimes exchange the neck strap with a wrist strap. The lens has got the filter adapter then a 49-34 step-down ring as hood, the case still closes with this extra 10mm on the lens and the camera is still as portable as before.

Downside with the genuine Fuji case is that the bottom isn't accessible anymore. With the dreadful battery life, it'd be nice to have a battery opening. Also have to remove the case for tripod mounting. There is this Gariz case with battery opening and tripod holes, but it costs a lot and its matching top part is designed to accommodate the massive flash-blocking hood, making the whole camera too big to be portable.
 
I liked the Fuji case too. I think a half-case is handy as it makes the camera easier to grip. And try a thumb-grip too. I couldn't believe how much better the handling is with one on.

I've sold my x100 but have a Gariz case on an X-E1. There is a hole for access to the battery and card but the locking knob still blocks the door slightly making it less than ideal. I don't know if this is an X-E1 only issue of whether it is true for the x100-Gariz combo as well.
 
I bought a cheapo one off eBay but wouldnt recommend it, if you can afford the Fuji official one definitely go for it; I unfortunately couldnt justify it at the time.
The cheap ones from eBay arent half-cases, the closing clip is misaligned so it closes at a weird angle and makes it look cheaper than it even was and the straps on them are rubbish, I certainly wouldnt feel comfortable holding it by the strap anywhere.
 
I bought a third party brown 'leather' one for my X100s. To be honest, I mostly end up taking it off [only ever use the bottom section] as I just prefer the feel of the bare camera. I will probably only really use it when transporting the camera, for extra protection. But I feel it's too 'clunky' on when using.
 
Never use a case when using the camera - spoils the whole relationship to my mind. To transport/ put in a bag, I use an Optech neoprene pouch; excellent bit of kit. Easily put on too if the weather turns - not that it does very often here in Scotland!
 
I just got the new fuji leather case and it does have a battery door on the bottom of the half case. But from all the cases I have seen it is the nicest one.
