x100 i m tempted but...

ok it looks great and everyone seems to rave about it but in my head i have as many pro`s as cons.
i have an g7 and a oly510 at the mo and i m going to off load both of them to buy one take any where camera. the x100 is top of the list at the minute but my doubts are;

is having a fixed lens on my only camera a good idea ?
as i only print to a4 or look at on a computer would i get as good of quality from say an xz-1 or s95 ?
for the money would i be better off with a good prime for my 510?
is it still to big to slip in your pocket and take any where?

I don't think a fixed lens on your only camera is very smart unless you can go back to your photos and make sure that plenty of your photographs are around the focal length of the X100. It would feel very very restrictive to me despite having been converted to primes (my K-5 has a 40mm all the time now and the D7000 before it had either the 50mm on).

Both of those compacts are excellent I think you will only see any sort of problem if you start shooting at higher ISOs other than that for screen viewing/A4 prints they should be very adequate.

I think yes, I wouldn't sell all my camera gear for an X100, your 510 plus a pancake prime is small enough although the sensor of the 510 is not really anywhere near the one in the X100.

Only in massive jacket pockets, you can't put the X100 in a jeans pocket or something

I don't find the fixed lens a problem, as above, my G1 might as well have had the 20mm glued to it, I never take it off. The X100 is a nicer focal length too.

One thing I have noticed is just *how* good the Fuji lens is. I've done some comparison shots and it has really shown me how poor the 20mm is in comparison!

It's not a slip-in-your-pocket camera, well, depends how big your pockets are....it's a sling it over your shoulder camera. Because of the dimensions and balance it's very easy to carry on a strap, not like a DSLR that is constantly jabbing you in the ribs. I take it everywhere, hikes, beach trips, nights out....very easy to carry.

The image quality is much better than a compact. The optical viewfinder is great. I find the whole package just makes photography more enjoyable. Looks great with the official case and hood (which are essentials imo).

My only gripe is that to close focus you need manually switch to Macro mode, which switches to Live View and focuses (slowly). It works, it's just a bit clumsy.

The film cameras that these digital cameras are styled like were probably only used with one lens by lots of owners and whatever they were fitted with they wouldn't fit in a trouser or shirt pocket any more than the modern digital cameras would, or wouldn't
