X100S or XE-1?

Does anyone have any thoughts/experience with both of these?

I feel like treating myself!

I've had a play with the X100S and I like it. I'm happy with the IQ/autofocus etc.
I need to have a go with the XE-1.
I'm happy with my FF gear and lenses and not looking to buy into another system, but the camera with the kit zoom would give me a bit more headroom!

Any thoughts?
 
I had the same thought but reckon I will go with the XE1 as with an inexpensive adaptor I will be able to use all my old manual focus Nikon glass. :)
 
I think you need to look at what you want from the camera, if its just a walkabout (with the capability of taking some great pictures) then go for the X100S, if you want to get into playing about with lenses etc, and possibly have a DSLR replacement then the X-E1 is the one to go for.

I have just spent a year with an X100 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/89667368@N05/) and bought an X-E1 on Saturday (and pre-ordered an X-E2!!!). So far I'm very impressed with the X-E1 but I've only used it for a few test shots with the 35mm lens. I decided to take up the deal on the free 18mm lens, and get the zoom with the X-E2. I'll then sort out which bodies I'm keeping, but the X100 is definitely a keeper, its just so lovely to use!

I wouldn't overly worry about the zoom lens, working with a fixed lens for a year has made my composition so much better, forcing me to move, rather than be lazy with the zoom!!

I went with the X100S largely because I just wanted a walkabout camera without getting distracted (and broke) by buying new lenses every month as I have almost uncontrollable gear acquisition syndrome.

Don't regret my choice, the X100S is a beauty of a camera and I haven't found the lack of zoom to be annoying, it's actually been quite liberating and taken me back to why I loved photography in the first place.
 
You could of course buy both and have the best of both worlds as it were, I have just sold almost all of my canon gear and have an x100s on order.

But for versatility I'm seriously considering the x-e1 as well, I'm just not sure that a fixed 23mm lens will cover all eventualities, hence the x-e1.

I just sold my Nikon DSLR gear due to health problems just couldn't carry it around no more.
So when for the Fuji,but was so not so sure if i could just get by on a fixed lens,
so the XE-1 for me :)
 
I can understand that Simon, my x100s was delivered this morning and the battery is on charge as I type.

Depending on how we bond it's possible that I will sell the 6d and L glass and get the new x-e2, looks as if it's a similar upgrade as the x100 to the s version.
 
Hi, I'm lucky enough to have both. The X100s is nothing short of amazing and is without doubt the best camera of this type currently available, I love everything about it but it's no substitute for the versatility of the X-E1.

I use my X-E1 with the 18-55 kit lens & the 55-200 lens and both are optically extreemly good. I also use a lens adapter for my Nikon manual lenses and extension tubes etc for close up shots with excellent results.

The X100s uses the later sensor and is slightly faster focussing but image wise I can see no difference. The latest X-E2 I understand has the same sensor as the X100s so I imagine it will focus etc just as quick.

If I could only have one of these fine cameras it would have to be the X-E1 or possibly the latest X-E2 when it's available.

Hi George, yes it does thanks, I've been reading the x-e1 threads with as much interest as I have with the x100 ones and have already arrived at the same conclusions as you. just didn't want to admit it to my wallet :lol:

I will however wait until the x-e2 is released for the reason you highlighted above, focussing.
 
Not really my area this but a good friend of mine who is an amazing candids/landscapes shooter has just sold his pro-grade Canon gear and moved over to an E-1. He is VERY picky about all aspects of his photography and prints up large. He is I might add unbelievably happy and impressed with the E-1 and the quality of the lenses available for this system.
