So got the XF1 which seems to take great pictures and the manual lens is by far the best feature but typically the day before im going on holiday.. the lens now wont work properly it seems - it just wont close unless very gently pressed in... now have i been unlucky or is this a problem with the design of the lens ? i should be able to get a refund from pcworld on the camera , then perhaps try to find something else... or do i just order a new one to pick up on return from my holiday and just hope i had been unlucky ?

Check PC Worlds returns 'policy'. You might find they'll insist on a repair if you've had it longer than a few seconds. In other words, do it right away!

If you like the camera but the replacement does the same thing, you'll know its a design issue.

Best bit of advice I have had recently, (form a guy in M&S of all places), is always buy online, even if you pick up in store, as the Distance Selling regs (which I think got updated this month?) give you better consumer cover. In this instance afaik you could simply reject the goods and not have to go through their repair loop.

That said, I do note you've had the camera a month now, so suspect it's a repair only option.

seems a few have just been unlucky - I've had mine 3 or 4 months and taken 1600 shots. I'll keep my fingers crossed

Very good, get down there as soon as and get a refund before the person you spoke to leaves and someone else says no refund...

well was customer services on the phone - asked they put a note on the record so should be fine.. shame as its been a great camear - ive now got nothing to take with my to egypt :(

Looks like there is a almost new one in the classifieds on here for £100.

** Not mine by the way...just sayin' ** ;)

well camera now returned.. (luckly paid online so think its a different process to instore ) now to try and beg / steel a camera for my holiday with 5 hours notice.. then must decide if i buy another xf1 or find a better made alternative... or perhaps buy there 3 year warranty with it !??

Shame you're in Oxford, otherwise you could have borrowed one of mine. For reasonable holiday snaps, pretty much anything will do the job, even if the XF will do it better you probably won't notice on 6x4 prints.

Have a great trip.
