I have a D40 with kit lens 18 -55mm.

I like to do macros but am open to anything. Looking for x mas presents have a budget of £200 what would you reccommed i get?
I also like wildlife but just looking for ideas

Can you explain the lens to me? is it a macro lens or is it a longish lens. what i mean is what will it be good to photograph with?

50mm 1.8 and some extension tubes.

it is a telephoto lens with a macro tag, does not give true 1:1 ratio so not a true macro but does give 1:2 ratio,

zoom macro lenses dont give a proper macro image so it isnt worth it. if it was me i would get a second hand tamron 90mm f2.8 macro which can be regarded as the best lens for macro photos with budget and best value for money.

As smalls said it's not a tru macro lens it's a tele mine just arived today so if i get chance i will take a few shots tomorow with it and put a few samples on for you to have a look at. The macro is on the high end of it between 200-300

As you a good sum of cash why not take the plunge and get a good tripod?

i would say the auto focus is a little slow for birds in flight . Not given it a good run out yet but will try tomorrow at manchester befor i review it.
