I rarely use that part of System Tools, but yesterday I had occasion to do so.

However, clicking on System Information brought up Windows Help & Support Center.

I tried the Run command wmmsd.exe for Sys Info and the same thing happened.

No idea how long that has been the case. Maybe it happened with SP3.

Anyone got an explanation or method of restoring Sys Info.

That brings up Help & Support Center too.

I have tried googling the problem and there are various schools of thought, but none are definitive.

Everything else on the pc seems perfectly normal.
 
Have you checked your drive for errors lately? Might be worth doing a scan to make sure there are no bad sectors :shrug:
 
Isn't system info part of the MS Office custom install procedure?

Don't have MS Office. Sys Info is under Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools (I have XP in Classic mode).

The .exe is present.

I have Diskeeper installed which is supposed to keep a watch on of disk health, but I'll try a scan.

It's not got anything to do with your Licence Key, has it? I've seen XP throw up Help & Support Center when there has been a conflict. Usually when I've used a key that's currently in operation somewhere else.

It might be that if you've recently upgraded to SP3 (assuming this issue has just started happening) something has gone awry in the process.

I got the SP3 update a while ago, but never had reason to look at Sys Ifo until a few days ago.
SP3 has attracted some criticism for buggering some things up.

I decided against running the batch file in the weblink since it has a cd command - change directory. That could mess things up good style. I am not sure how I could reverse that if it went pear shaped.

I have opted to use a work around solution - Belarc Adviser.

CD command will change into a directory rather than "change a directory" if that's what you mean mate?

so "cd /d %windir%\pchealth\helpctr" simply navigates to what is likely to be c:\windows\pchealth\helpctr

PS I have never looked back since installing SP3.. i'm fairly sure it has sped things up a little! (Although I binned Symantec AV Corportate in favour of Avast AntiVirus at around the same time so I think it's a combination of things).

Watch with belarc if you ever post error logs on their site.. I know some people have unwittingly posted logs which contain their OS and software licence keys for all to see.

There is absolutely no certaintity that SP3 is the culprit.
PC runs faultlessly apart from the Sys Info thing.

I'd only use belarc for my own info.

I binned Symantec a few years ago because I felt the software was bloated and sluggish.
Some claim the current stuff is much better.
