Yet another Lightroom question

Edit My Images

Lightroom 3

When tweaking a large number of pictures, what do I do with each one when I have finished twiddling? I know there is no Save function and I need to Export, but do I need to Export each picture individually? Can I just leave picture 1 when I'm satisfied with it, open up picture 2 and so on in turn and batch Export/Resize the whole folder at the end?

If you want all photos to have the same edit..Edit your the first photo, then select all and synchronise, then export.

If you want to edit each photo inividually, edit 1, move on to next. Once all done, select all and export.

I do my edit on Image one, then move onto 2 and so-on and when I'm happy with the edits (I create a lot of virtual edits that I rate to order them) I just select the images and export, generally to a desktop folder that's related to each individual job.

Adjustments that are more global (sharpnening, WB changes) are done right at the start by synchronising the images and then more local changes - such as contrast and levels tweaks - are applied secondly.

As for saving, each tweak you make is stored automatically in Lightroom's 'memory' (the catalogue) so it doesn't need you to do anything. I generally make a virtual copy of each image so that's the one the changes are applied to; I just find having a base image that's SOOC to be useful to refer back to alongside each and every virtual copy.

I tend to rate or colour code the images from a shoot so I just have to use the relevant ordering filter and choose the images that fall; under that search criteria. Some people use smart collections and what-not, but I just do it that way. :)
