Hope you don't mind me making a suggestion.

I can see something really graphically dynamic here if you were to crop tight on the ear and fingers. It would be almost abstract but still retain the feeling you're after.

Simon, thanks for taking the time to comment. Next time I'm editing I'll have a go at that. I've experimentally cropped it down from the original here and it's maybe not ideal. It was intended to be used on a web page rather than a print so I can experiment more! Thanks again.
