Yet another which lens to buy...

Yes
I'm thinking about buying a new lens as I only have a 50mm f1.8 at the moment.

I'm not really looking to spend over £200.

I normally just shoot sports, but would like a nice walkabout lens to keep on the camera.

Thanks :)

Sorry Andy but £200 isn't going to get you much. If you stretch it a bit and get lucky you might find a 2nd hand Tamron 28-75 or suitably old Sigma equivalent.

For most sports, I would assume that you need longer lenses - in which case the 55-m250mm IS lens from Canon could fit the bill. However, the autofocus is not in the realm of USM fast - so I guess it depends on the sport.

I bought a Sigma 28-300 for the same reason, on good days you can say its nice, but unfortunately you can't say much more then that.

You'll get some okay photos, but thats all they will be - ok and not fantastic. It lacks when extended more then 2/3rds and the af is incredibly noisy, slow and hunts a lot.

But that said, you can pick them up v cheap - and you might be lucky enough to get one of the later OS ones in the budget.

Yeah that's what i was looking at a while back, but i'm really not looking to spend to much as it's a want more than a need.

Well when i say sports i really just mean BMX, so to be honest i wouldn't be looking at a long lens, but thank's for the advice.
