YN-460-II Flash Speedlight question.

I'm considering purchasing one/two of these as a secondary flash unit, for use on locations etc.(building a small portable light studio) I'm curious if I can use it as a Slave flash? By which i mean it'll fire when my main flash does so without anyform of wireless signal?

Anyone have any use with these?

The YN-460-II has an inbuilt optical slave, so it can be triggered from your main flash, you need to be aware that the range is very limited, particularly outdoors and in anything approaching bright sunlight (not that that is much of an issue in Glasgow :lol:) it is virtually zero.

They're decent enough wee flashes but I'd suggest budgeting for a set of wireless triggers as well, something like the RF602 or 603 will do the job nicely :thumbs:

And Graham, I plan on using them a max distance of 5-10 meters apart. and indoors at that. I have looked at wireless triggers(have a transmitter and reciever) but only got enough to get one or the other, might aswell get the flash if it works optically :)
 
Even 5 metres indoors is pushing it, tbh. The last time we tried using the YN-460-IIs I think it was nearer 5-10 feet range and even then was very hit or miss, even if you get a couple of really good ones (the range that the slave works at seems to vary from one to the next) there is no way you're going to get reliable triggering at a distance of 10m.

Save up a bit more and buy a set of triggers too, otherwise you'll just drive yourself to distraction trying to get the flashes to work....
 
Hmm, Fair enough, I'll get one any how, its only going to get used for still lifes untill next month anyhow. :)
