Looking for a cheap flash.

Am I right in thinking 468 is decent? Both off an on camera? £60 and it has ETTL

And can i use it wirelessly with no remote or reciever again on and off camera?

if i use it on camera will it fire instead of the onboard flash when the flash is turned on?

Danny,

The Yongnuo YN468 is a decent flash for the money. It will never be as good as the 4/5 series EX's from Canon but it is a good way of getting into flash photography.

Yes it is full ETTL so when attached to the camera hotshoe the camera will determine the power settings.
Not sure about the wireless part, think you may still need some sort of trigger for it to use off camera.

When the flash is attrached to the hotshoe the onboard pop-up disables itself.

why 460's? are they noty just manual? and if i want to use it on camera i will have no ETTL?

i may look to use one on camera and one off camera or sometmies both off ..


And yeah the 602's i can get for £32 for 2 recievers and one transmitter
 
I wasn't trying to convince you what to do - just offering some info for consideration.
 
no i know mate lol im just asking why you think that .. i havent a clue what to buy so advice is good

am i right in saying .. the 460's are manual only both off and on camera

where as the 468 are manual off camera and auto ettl on camera?

so if im only ever using them off camera the 468 is pointless?

great so how about for ettl

a yongnuo ST-E2 and 2 x 468's?

or wont that work?

whats a PT04? wireless how :S and is it better or worse than the ST-E2?
 
I use a YN560 and YN04 wireless triggers, it's an awful lot of flash for not a lot of money, it's simple enough to use as well, and it's all manual. Bounced off a ceiling it's like having a 100W bulb on at ISO 100 and F8.

Looks ridiculous sat on my camera though!)
 
I don't think that the ST-E2 is only for firing Canon Flashes through IR , I think I remember reading about some yongnuo compatable flashes but don't think they were ever produced ( someone correct me if I'm wrong .)

It will work without a trigger in optical slave mode (line of sight and needing another flash to trigger the optical sensor), but no TTL off-camera. True wireless would need a trigger/receiver combination, e.g. RF-602.

how about the yn560 alistair? ive read reviews but i would like to use a pair off camera

whats the best option for wireless given they will be in a bedroom/studio which isnt large at all
 
RF-602 for wireless, easily the most affordable and practical option. The reviews of the YN-560 seem to be quite positive, never tried one myself.

Don't overlook some of the older Canon flashguns if you find them secondhand and working. My go-to pair of flashes for off-camera work are a pair of Canon 430EZ. Good solid performers. You can't switch off their sleep mode, but the RF-602 wakes them on a half-press of the shutter (which is probably why they jumped from £40 each to £60+ on Ebay after the -602 came out).

The output is much the same but you get more features from the 560. See here.

IO would add that there must be an updated 560 as mine has motorized zoom and no lock buttonfor swivel, everything else is the same.
