Yes
I'm looking to use a wireless remote release on my EOS 40D at the same time triggering a flash using a YN622. All the releases I've seen so far sit on the hot shoe. Is it simply a case of sliding the 622 onto the hot shoe and then the remote release on top or is there anything else I need to consider?

This is what I use....
I have a pair of 603 MkII as remote triggers. One sits on the hot shoe and is wired in. The other is in my hand as the trigger.
On top of the 603 on the hotshoe is my 622 TX which controls remote flash with a 622 underneath it.
Simple and it works.
Others may/will use a different system.

I use this on my d800 also.

Thanks for that much appreciated. A quick question does the ettl still work in this configuration ?

yongnuo also make a pretty good wireless remote that plugs in to the side of the camera. Search around ebay and you'll dig one out. I've used my for a few years now.
Is that effectively a 603 with a cable to go in the remote socket ? Looks like it may my suit my needs as I didn't want the receiver dangling loose so a hot shoe fitting is ideal

that would be quite basic trigger. You can have full on intervalometer
