Yongnuo flash & triggers and Nikon

Hi all, I've been lurking in the background and reading lots of the threads and have learnt a lot, now I'm hoping someone might be able to offer me some guidance...

I have purchased a YN622N-TX a YN568EX for Nikon and 2 YN622N triggers to go with my Nikon D5300. They all work perfectly in i-TTL mode and when the camera is in aperture priority mode I can see the aperture change on theflash display as I change it on the camera. However, I can’t get the flash to work in manual controlled from the 622TX. The display on the 622TX shows manual and I can set the power OK but the flash continues to work in i-TTL mode and doesn’t reduce the flash power to the level shown on the 622TX display. I've checked and double checked all the groups and in case I'd missed something set all groups to manual. I'm given to understand I leave the flash in I-TTL and the kit should sort everything out. It appears to communicate ok between camera and flash as when I half press the shutter release the flash LCD lights up, it just doesn't make any changes. I've tried all the different flash modes on the camera but it just continues to work in I-TTL, it does recognise when I use the red eye mode.

I have tried to check for new firmware for the 622TX but the link in the handbook doesn’t work and I can't find anything on the Yongnuo site (www.hkyongnuo.com), the display shows firmware V1.05

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does the flash have a mode button that switches between manual/TTL/optical/remote power manual? My simple 560mk3 does and I think you needed to change flash mode for remote manual power. I could be wrong tho!

Thanks for the reply. Yongnuo have replied now (they were closed for a Chinese holiday). With Nikon, the flashguns need to be left in TTL and then the TX emulates TTL control when it is manual mode and sends the instruction for power and zoom to the flash. This is what was confusing me as the flash gun LCD just shows iTTL mode and doesn't change to reflect the power and zoom chosen. I've played with it in the dark and it is indeed changing the setting as per the TX setting, it just doesn't confirm that on the flash display!

It's sometimes hard to detect by eye because speedlights don't vary flash power, just vary duration, so the flash is just as bright to your eyes. But you'll notice the difference in the images.

That's interesting, I never knew that. It was much more apparent using them in a darkened room rather than in daylight and I found I could hear the difference in the speedlight.
