I think I read a reply on a thread that the Yongnuo Rf-602 is about to replaced by a newer model. I think the post said something like an RF-8???

Can someone confirm/deny this info? I am looking to get a trigger to control my 430EX II off camera from my 1DmkIV. I don't want to get the 602 if something better is coming out soon. ;)
 
It does have two major differences.

The units are transceivers, rather than one transmitter and a set of receivers, and they have the ability to mount a flash on the hotshoe and trigger through; although whether that defeats the whole point of OCF is another matter! :)

Andy I'm in exactly the same position, but I'm waiting to see what the pricing is going to be like.

Darn ! Just bought my RF 602 too !
What I disliked most about it is the non standard battery for the transmitter.
Good thing that is addressed in the RF 603.

So could be a while before they are released. I might just get some 602s for now. I mean in the grand scheme of things they aren't that expensive.

Sorry for my ignorance (I've done no off-camera flash photography before) but I don't really understand what all that means. (reading it back it sounds like I'm having a go at you which is totally not the case :))

All I want to do is to be able to fire my 430EX II off-camera using my 1DmkIV. I want to do it in manual mode. The ability to use the 602 to double up as a wireless trigger for long exposures would also be nice but not essential.
 
get the 602 then, you'll be fine. Make sure to buy the one that lists 1D4 in the ebay listing, so you get the right trigger cable.

I will probably do that then. I read some sellers charge more for a connection cable. Is this cable worth the extra £5 or so that they charge?

The 603s can mount a flash unit on the camera as well as themselves, because they have both male and female hotshoes. Hence my comment about whether it defeats the whole point of OCF, but I have actually seen PWs being used like that, so there is a market/requirement for the capability.

IIRC if you want to use the 602s to trigger the shutter then you need to get a separate cable that doesn't always come with the kit.
 
Ah I see. I don't plan no doing it like that at present so I reckon the 603s aren't worth waiting for for my use.
 
I would get the RF-602. They work, tried and tested, and they're cheap.

The new model has none of the features I would like fixed, such as the damn receiver switch that is impossible to get at with my 580EX mounted, and the receiver still needs a lock on the foot. I don't know why people fuss about the transmitter battery - CR2 battery is small and light, seems to last for ages and they only cost three quid a pair on Amazon.

If the 603 did something new, that would be different. Without going anywhere near the E-TTL auto-exposure trickery, I'm pretty sure it's possible to do remote second curtain sync* and high speed sync* just by pulling a different trigger pulse out of the camera's hot shoe (in the same way that the 602 picks up the wake-up signal, all the contacts are there) but AFAIK the 603 doesn't do that.

Edit: * there's a workaround way of doing both those things with the 602, but it needs you to buy an additional gun (such as a 270EX) and an optical slave to extract the correct firing signal and feed that to the transmitter.
 
Just bought a 602 transmitter / receiver yesterday :bonk::bonk:

well it was only £25 delivered, can't see the new models being anywhere near that price, new stuff always demands a premium price.

do you know if they do these for the sony a290

i cant find it but not sure if you can get an adapter or something

Okay,

Ive been buying these over the last year and now have 4 602 rec & 2 trans...total cost £70...these will fire both my Canon 550EX flashes & my two Interfit 150EX or YN 460 II or a mix...I shoot on manual all the time...so I recon youd need to sped a fortune on even 603s never mind PWs for the same output I use...

Just my tuppence worth...but always remember the 602s VFM...and use the money for better glass...

I have some dedicated Sony triggers from Ebay.... they are not rf-602's, but they are CTR-301's.

Heres a link Sony CTR-301

They do 1, 2 and 3 receiver versions... and extra recievers arent expensive. Only thing is... they take CR-2 batteries and not AA. But the range is good, and I really rate the triggers!!
 
I bought a set of 602 from FITP, great way to get into off camera flash since I am only a novice and can play around with it. Cheap and cheerful :D

I'm sure I heard from someone a week or so ago that FITP has sold out and won't be getting any more in. :( I would have much preferred to buy from him as there are so many ebay shops selling them I don't know which are trustworthy and which aren't.
