i was given this by a family friend whom used it as a flash trigger, im wanting to use it as a shutter release ....

which im told is completely viable the instruction booklet agrees...

plugged it all in according to the instructions, remote and receiver are in sync... doesnt control my shutter? :S

Anyone have one? anyone have any idea?

ooooo uhm, using a canon 50D .... anything else you wanna know just ask :)
 
Are the batteries good in the Yongnuos?
 
If you've got the focus configured for the back button, you'll need to change it to the shutter button. Put the lens in MF and try a shot....if it works then that's the likely problem.
