Hi,i went to take some shot of our newly groomed westies tonight stuck the flash on and it wouldn't fire on the camera at all ,soon as it was off the camera and set on S1 off camera it fired up no problem .I put the flash back on camera and still it wouldn't fire . Am i missing something or is the flash faulty ....
 
S1 is the slave setting so shoots off another flashes. You need set to manual

Sorry should've explained, i did set it back to manual when the flash was on hotshoe. :-)
 
What camera? Is it definitely communicating - can you change settings, TTL exp. compensation, etc. on the body and see it change on the flash?

EDIT: looks like its fully manual, I always get the Yongnuo models mixed up (couldn't tell you which one I own)

This is a slave flash not ittl compatible ..looks like the 565 but is not ...if you just bought it send it back ( unless you wanted a slave)
 
I use a YN 560, works fine on the hotshoe in manual mode for me. Used it on 3 different Nikon bodies. And it'll fire an SB900 off cam, 2 in fact that I've tried. I'm sure it'll even fire more. Must be some setting you've not checked on cam.
 
Why would anyone wan a manual flash ? ..when you can get a set all ittL? Press the shutter and up to half a dozen all fire off with perfect exposure. Is this 1970 ?
 
If its new and you plan on shooting on camera I would return it and pay a little extra for the TTL model.

Because you want to control the light from the different flashguns, so the light is shaped the way you want it.
For on-camera, or single off-camera - yes TTL is a good thing to have, and saves time in many situations, but if you're using multiple flashes in a planned shot, then you need manual - so no point having a more expensive TTL gun for those situations as you'll never use the feature.

Because they're very cheap, and just as good, and it takes a few seconds to set them manually. What is it, difficult? :P I have both. Got the YN-560 when I was poor and couldn't stretch to a ttl flash, later I got 2 SB900. Why would I chuck the old manual one because of that? It still has it's uses. What you're saying is a bit like saying 'why bother with manual focus' when someone buys a samyang ... or zeiss!
 
TTL is overrated and over priced, I prefer manual anyway

There is now yeah. When I bought mine, they only had manual. Even with the SB900 I tend to adjust manually anyway, TTL is over rated.

i fitted the flash on the wrong way around ....... silly me:mad:.....:exit:
