Received my yn560 today for my canon 1100d and I can't seem to get the flash to work. It powers up fine and I think it is syncing together but it does not fire. Are all yn560 the same or could it be that my one is not compatible or am I being thick and doing something wrong. This is my first flash so new to it all!

If the pilot is firing it might be something to do with the hotshoe and not the flash. Have a look if its a dirty connection.

Ok thanks for that but still does anyone know if it's compatible with the 1100d I'm worried iv got the wrong one.
It fits on to the camera perfect but if I go to flash settings it tells me that there is no flash attached? Or is that normal for a yn560?

the yn560 will on any hotshoe camera. Have you tried the pilot/test button on the flash, is it firing?

Yep got it working I don't know wether I have bitten off more then I can chew with this. I think I was expecting to pop it on and off I go.
Also thought the instruction book was going to be more helpful? I have mainly got it for macro photography but at the mo although it is firing I just get a blank screen!!!
Is there only certain setups that this is going to work on on my camera. Sorry for being such an amateur guys

Its a manual flash so the camera will not adjust the flash like it does with the pop up flash. If you want a flash to do it for you you need a ttl flash like the yongnuo 465.

The flash is firing but even when I have it on full power I don't get a picture it is just black? What is going on !!!!

Is your lens cap on? put you camera on manual, slip the flash on the hotshoe and make sure your shutter speed is around 250th of a second (around there anyway) I get the feeling your shutter speed is to high hence the black screen.

yayyy just sussed it out and then came on here to find the above answer. my shutter speed was way to high. DOH! got it working a treat now. i knew i was doing somthing wrong.

Hello me again with some more help please. Does anyone know what it is I need so I can use my yn560 flash off camera.

There maybe an option in your camera menu somewhere to stop you selecting a shutter speed above the max sync speed, although I'm not sure if it applies to your manual flash.
