Yes
Well, having looked at some of the best light painting from the specialist mentioned in the thread title and member of this illustrious manor, I decided to have a play. So these are probably the worse light painting ever, but at least I now know that the wind-up torch is bright enough for this game. I am wondering if I can persuade Mr Bayliss to come up with a wind up light sabre.

Took these in the back garden of our suburban London house so light pollution was a little problematic on longer exposures but otherwise, it was easier than I expected once I figured out scale, angle of torch, etc.

Anyway, here goes....

1 - yes, its me....

2 - ...posting on talking photography [or some such flipped scribble]....

3 - ...offering you a dodgy flower....

4 - ...and an exploding football...

5 - ....which set light to another football!

snigger if you like, I don't mind, just thought I would share a learning experience ;)

well done thats some thing i am wanting to try how about telling us what settings you used ?
just in case thanks

Thanks Mike. Settings were various exposure lengths, F9, ISO200, std 18-70 lens at 18mm, manually focused to inifinity for these. Used the remote trigger I bought from FitP to open and close shutter at beggining/end of each attempt. I am sure it can get much more complicated and indepth but it was a starting point. ;)

They are great

You're right Yv, he does have a lot to answer for. I've just purchased a bulk load of multi-coloured light sticks from ebay ( Just waiting now for a warmer night.

As for your shots, they are great (y) I just hope I can do as well :)

Well done you :)

Keep thinking I must try the spirograph ones where the torch is swung on a string.

wow, great shots and i personally think the "light pollution" as you put it adds to the effect!

Fantastic Captures I Really Like No.1 No.2 No.4 And No.5 Very Sharp And Crisp And Great Colours Very Well Done

Thanks everyone! :D

Did you have any neighbours watching you Yv?

Nice pics, always fun to try something new!!

Have to admit it was huge fun, even the drizzling rain stopped after the first few minutes. Gawd only knows what the neighbours thought, but frankly my dear, I couldn't give a damn :woot:

Not sure I will ever make my mark in the light painting world, but it was more fun than an average night in front of the TV!

What did I learn....I think the thing to remember is that the camera is seeing the actual light on the toruch, NOT the bit of beam and where it lands which is what you instinctively look at and follow, because after all, thats what torches are for, right!

Great attempts by the way Yv

I had to light write some in welsh a couple of nights ago; a first for me! :D

On the same night, churned out this, just for giggles ->

a bit random but had to cut it short and scoop up my gear after I saw headlights behind me... not wise leaving gear in the middle of a road  :D

There is a very definate 'just for giggles' look about that one when compared to your others Michael and its brilliant...and a bit big for the forum :(

I'll make a link, would you repost a smaller version pretty pretty please?

Nice work. (y) Fun isn't it? :D

That is one wicked image! Love it....and no, not wise leaving gear in the middle of the road  but I guess it's things like that, that make shots more memorable
