Well I did my first wedding shoot on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it. The sun was very bright which caused me some major problems with exposure and shadows but I have managed to get a decent enough set. My D700 packed up (temporarily) on the 2nd shot AFTER the wedding which could also have caused problems but I did have 2 spare bodies there.

What issues/problems did everyone else have on their first wedding shoot or did it all go perfectly. What did you learn from it?

very nice :) especially the cake shot!

first wedding I lef tthe ISO too high and the shots were all a little grainy...thank god for Noise Ninja in photoshop and black & white lol

I've since learned and now enjoy weddings (even though I get nervous at every one), everyone happy and if the weathers good it's the icing on the cake :) but that's the one thing we can't book I guess

Quite a few years ago I shot a wedding at Aberdeen Registrary Office at 2pm and then onto the Winter Gardens (an indoor garden place) as the bride wanted some shots with the nice flowers and water features.
This would have worked well if it didn't happen to be the week before Christmas. It was pitch black outside and very little light inside.
To make matters worse the top snapped off my tripod so I had to up the ISO to 400 as I was using ISO 100 film so I ended up shooting hand held with my 75-300is lens that luckily was still in my car from the previous day. I didn't manage to get any full length shots but close up shots were surprisingly good considering.
Thank goodness for IS

First wedding was, hmm, 13-15 years ago on film. Biggest issue I had on the day was no elevation for the group shot, which meant I had everyone in a big line a couple deep across the reception car park, but without a seriously wide angle lens I had to step right back so the end result was, shall we say, panoramic. Think 'full school photo' and you're nearly there

Hence I've taken a stepladder and a helping of lateral thinking to every wedding since

Forgot to drop the ISO down after shooting the ceremony inside a dark church, when we went outside for the wedding party shots. Ended up producing some very high key portraits.
