That's really hard to read.

I can personally vouch for the Voigtlander 20/3.5 and 40/2...if you like manual focus then they're the best pancakes available on Nikon (I've owned and returned a 45/2.8P). The pancakey (ish) 50/1.8 interests me and I may get it someday, but I'd sooner get the Voigtlander 58/1.4 though it isn't nearly as diminuitive for the CPU metering and better optics.

Thanks MUD: new in the ranke

Personally, after the 3rd sentence I have no real idea what you wrote :S

If you want light, small and useful then I can suggest:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/50f18E.htm

Which after rereading your OP 3-4 times I think is the Nikon MF 50/1.8 E with L24D62.5W135gF52

dirt cheap and works on my D60 very well, but you have to meter as the camera can't do it. Think I got mine for around £40-45.

Thanks Harvey. The Nikon MF AIS 50/1.8E is defenitely one of the small and low weight with good optical performance. BR Atomino

Some of the older 50mm f/1.8 AF lenses are also small and light. Most (if not all) of them are body driven AF so aren't as suitable for D40(x), D60 and D?000 as AF-S lenses. Should be around the fifty quid mark second hand, a bit more from a dealer with warranty.

If you'd rather have a zoom, the Nikon 18-70 is pretty hard to beat and is an AF-S lens so will work on almost every Nikon AF body (it's a Dx lens so not an ideal choice for a FF DSPR or a 35mm body.)

Thanks Nod, so we will add:
Family 40-60:
Nikon AF-D 50/1.8 with L39D63.5W155gF52MM1:6.6MD0.45m
Standardzooms
You are the third recommending the Nikon 18-70.
