Hello all:wave:
I've been looking at these lenses on ebay and have been tempted. I've got a 450D with a 28-135mm and a 50mm 1.8 and quite fancy the extra bit of reach. My lad will be starting 5 aside footy soon and i take pics of motocross when i get the chance. any advice will be great.
Thanks
Matt

Depends on your budget I guess. The 55-250 and the 70-300 both get good feedback and might give you a little more reach.

Cheers
MIP

The 70-300mm is a bit out of reach(new sprog on the way at the weekend:shrug:)and i like the usm for the quick focusing.

The quality is not much different to your 28-135 until you get to the limits of the zoom range....if the 28-135 is okay for you then the 70-210 will be too.

Pick one up for £70-100 and you're not going to lose anything on the resale.

Thanks for your replys:thumbs:
I am happy with the 28-135 for I, i know its not the best but its fine for me. I'll keep an eye on the bay for one going between £70-£100.

That's the price for the push/pull f4 (7/210) these days, the later 3.5/4.5 is a bit more. I have one (of each) and the later 3.5/4.5 is a much better lens, focuses much faster, the f4 will be too slow for 'action' photographs, better IQ and works well enough on my 1.3 cropper (1D Mk2), most reviews say its very close to the L series and I wouldnt disagree.
I did a buy it now (for quite a bit more) but I reckon at £150 it would still be a good buy, not quite as good as a 70/200 f4 but close enough for the money.

I've just done a completed listing on ebay. they sold for £117, £114 and £109.

I love my 70-210 f/3.5-4.5. It's a nice portrait lens and has very quick USM AF which makes it great for shooting sports, I've shot several tennis events with it. Sharp too. Only downside is a tendency to purple fringing wide open in high contrast areas.

Here's a few samples with mine:

It's made me tame my 70-200 L itch. For now any any rate...

.....but I reckon at £150 it would still be a good buy
We'll have to disagree on this one Matt....I think £150 is a little OTT for an Ebay offering and that's more like a dealers price with warranty factored in.

Thank you Deckard for those pics. Just what i want this lens for. Time to keep an eye on ebay.

I know what I paid for mine - I was robbed :)
Still reckon it was good value even at the price I paid.

Apologies for suggesting the price was wrong.
