Just listening to "See Me, Feel Me" from "Tommy"...that's a cracking album. Can we not have a 50 best albums thread, please???

Tell me about it. I missed off Joy Division and New Order!

Ultravox - Ha! Ha! Ha!
Hawkwind - Warrior on The Edge of Time
Blondie - Parallel Lines
Led Zeppelin III
Colourbox
Blue Nile - Hats
Boot Hill Foot Tappers - Ain't That Far From Boot Hill

Hot Space......Queen ( there's a reason why my name is Coolcat )

Goodbye Manhattan.....Pieces of a Dream
Back for More....Cool Million
Sands of Time.....SOS Band
Living all Alone.....Phyllis Hyman

OMG someone else has actually heard of them!

Saw them at Hammersmith Odeon when they toured Empire, they played the whole of Operation Mindcrime start to finish :D
I went to see Queensryche support Bon Jovi in '86 ... thought the drummer was going to end up in the crowd the crazy loon!!!

If I had a top ten of albums, they'd nearly all have been mentioned ... even the more obscure ones such as Copper Blue are in this thread (y)

I'll add these then:

The Delgados - Great Eastern
Interpol - Interpol
Super Furry Animals - Rings Around the World
Neil Young - Harvest
The Charlatans - Tellin Stories
Anthrax - Among The Living
Wonderstuff - Hup
The Levellers - Levelling The Land
Y&T - Black Tiger
Beck - Odelay

Bands such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Beatles, U2, Elbow ... to name a few would periodically get in this list somewhere too!

I nearly added Hup to my list too. It's just too hard to pick 10.

I've an idea if anyone's interested. How about we have a random draw of names in this thread and pair up people who then have to pick an album for their partner from their own top ten. They then have to promise to buy it and give it a good go. We might be able to share some stuff people would never listen too.

That sounds like an interesting idea :D would be up for it, always like finding new music

Let's see how many takers we get when the rest of the world wakes up.

I rarely buy anything for myself, never mind other people :D

You don't buy it for them, you suggest an album to buy. ;)

To be honest tried listening to all types of music, but still only like rock/heavy rock/metal so count me out thanks.

Started off buying Deep Purple's Black Night when I was about 13 and forty years later still only enjoy rock

Just can't beat a pounding drum and bass driven tune interspersed with wailing guitar culminating in the classic long winding down end, even better with some random feedback thrown in for good measure

Interesting, because I was the same. But over the last 10 years or so (I'm 42 now) my tastes became much wider...but one thing remains...a song/tune needs to have some loud bits, some quiet bits, some stirring bits, some gentle bits, and some harsh bits...true of most rock songs, and also true of a lot of classical, and Operatic work. I am no way a classical music buff - I can't tell my brahms from my lidzt, but I know what I like when I hear it.

Always worth trying something new...take a few posts above, they mention Gotye - making Mirrors. I LOVE the "somebody that I used to know" track as it fits much of the criteria I mention above, but I couldn't get on with the rest of the album. but I did try. :)

In my world sharing is for things you don't like! :p

Bruce Springsteen - The Wild The Innocent and the East Street Shuffle
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
The Elgar Cello Concerto in E Minor – Paul Tortelier with the LPO conducted by Sir Adrian Boult
Miles Davis - The Birth of the Cool
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisted
The Band - The Last Waltz
Buddy Holly and The Crickets - The Chirping Crickets -
Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Water
The Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed
Brinsley Schwarz - Nervous on the Road

[10 Albums by 10 different artists, with a crossover cheat or 2 in there ;) In reality I could probably choose 10 Van the Man albums]

That last bit hits a note with me. I love loads of music, different genres etc
But an album can have several tracks on them and you may only like the odd one, two or three.
