The words I didn't want to hear...

"Sorry mate, if the motors gone, its a write-off, and I'm 99% sure it is".

These are the words of the expert at my local camera shop talking about my canon 100-200 zoom lens. Ok fair enough its 15+ years old, but it was my late granpa's and I've taken (in my view) the best of my shots with it.

So... I'm now looking for a new one, well when I say 'new' I mean new to me. I'm a student so am looking for nothing over £100, but I'd like something like a 70-200 mm this time round, or even 100-300.

Something I've been looking aswell is a converter... I have a Canon T90 and several lenses for it and was wondering whether I can have a bit in the middle between my canon 450D body and the T90's lenses'. This would also save a lot of hassle if you can buy a converter!


So any advice or info on cheap yet decent lenses, or lens converters it would be very much appreciated!!

The more I play with my camera the more I like manual focus, won't the lens still allow this?
 
Yes you can buy a converter, but it adds an extra bit of glass to the equation, which may have a slight detrimental effect on IQ.

Have a look on Flea bay - there are plenty of FD 70-210 zooms on there. In fact I've just bought one for use on my T90 for less than £30.

Its a really strange lens and doesn't have manual. It was like one of the first motorised focusing lenses, so they seemed to be going all out with the Automatic thing!

I'm not all clued up on the types of lenses for the cameras... Will FD attach to a 450D??
