Well last night my said I could spend up to £200 on a new lens!

I really want a Voigtlander 58mm f\1.4

I know Robert White sell them for £315
B&H works out at £259 today
And there is a chap in the classifieds here wanting £240

I'm always a bit nervous buying second hand kit but from what I read of the Voigtlander it can be used as a rugby ball and sit be used!

Anybody know of anywhere else that will sell one? It would be nice for it to be a bit closer to my £200 limit! :D

Failing that I will buy myself a sigma 18-50mm f2.8 or a Tamron 17-50mm

Any help appreciated

Stuart, do not forget you would have to pay vat andimport duty on the one from b&h.

Robertwhite you will need to add vat to that price. I have dealt with robert whites on many ocassions and whilen the cheapest price their customer service is second to none. I would rather pay a little extra for the service and knowledge of their staff.

As to buying secondhand, I would say someone who buys this sort of lens is going to look after their kit and so i would not be to worried, imo.

For just over your budget you can get the 50mm nikon f1.4.

For nearer 300 you can get the afs g lens (should af on your d60)

For 300-400 you could go for the sigma 30mm f1.4

I have the 50mm f1.4d. It's small, fast but slightly disappointing at 1.4 (not as sharp on focus) but at f4 it sharp with slight bokeh.

I want to swap to a sigma f1.4 as I think it's nicer and slightly wider on the crop sensor.

Anyone near you with the lenses? You could meet up n try em. See which suits you/your camera :)

or try borrowing one (lens loaning) before spending too much.

Cheers.

From what I've read the Voigtlander has the highest optical properties out of the lot of them.

an other reason for wanting it is I have a 70-200 and I want a 18-50mm so 58mm would nicely bridge the 50-70mm gap!

Although I have noticed that Calumet are selling the Nikon Af-s for £280 with my 10% student discount it is tempting.

Cheers Stuart
