ZANO Quadcopter - Anyone (else) Backed this?

I wasn't really sure where to post this but saw this little quadcopter in a BBC article this morning covering CES 2015 and thought it was fantastic. Like an impatient child I've just backed it on Kickstarter and wondered if anyone else has?

That does seem fair..would rather wait and see if it has any issues before paying for one though.
 
Fantastic can't wait to go on holiday to a nice quiet location and have dozens of them buzzing round :-(
 
I guess there is the issue if privacy ? Been on the news recently, whereby drones where used to video a crime scene I believe ? And police arrested the guy, and confiscated his drone

Haha, I now have visions of hundreds of these things buzzing around everywhere, sort of taking over the role of the bloody mosquito! :(

Maybe someone will invent a small, cheap, electronic device/weapon to combat them? ;) DEET (DronEExTerminator) (y)
 
Purely hypothetically, of course, but if I was in my back field shooting clays and one of these drone thingies flew over filming me and it got hit by a stray pellet, who gets in trouble?
 
Presuming you're shooting legally, if some numpty was daft enough to fly one near you & it accidently got hit......tough! imho.

My guess would be the drone lol:naughty:
 
It would probably be a similar outcome to if you shot at and damaged a passing car or helicopter.
It would be kind of silly to fly one over a active shoot unless it was carefully organised in advance though.

I think it's important to be aware that landowners don't have right to control air space over their property.
Even if one is flying stupidly close you can't just attack it.
Causing one to crash might result in significant damage to something on the ground.
 
In the hypothetical case above, the pilot of the drone shouldn't be flying within 50m of persons not under their direct control. IF the drone was in the normal line of fire, it would probably be fair game...

I wouldn't be surprised to see some fairly draconian new legislation covering the use of drones, otherwise I would have one by now!
 
These do look very good, they're getting quite well backed on kickstarter as well.

I'd say that it's also important to be aware that acting irresponsibly and causing a nuisance by flying a drone stupidly or irritatingly close to people is simply asking for trouble. (typed before Nod posted the link above!)
Looking at the size of the Zano, causing one to crash could well result in significant damage to a clump of grass and a few daisies!

This is what put me off buying a drone. I was all set to buy a DJI Phantom a few months ago but it seemed obvious that legislation was going to make using it difficult in the near future. I did see a BBC video before Christmas though with the CAA that said it's the bigger drones they want more legislation on, not the new generation of palm sized versions.

I live in Cornwall and often see people flying drones on the beach. Some of these things are huge. The first thought that goes through my mind is "I wonder how in control the person is flying it". I wouldn't be so concerned about something 6cm wide (although I wouldn't personally fly a drone anywhere near anyone. It's not just illegal, it's stupid and irritating).

Yeah their doing really well. Way over their targets with still a day to go. As they're at CES, and one of the most talked about products, I can see them getting quite a few more orders over the next 24 hours. Good luck to them.

I love that it's easily upgradable as parts become available. They already have a thermal imaging camera ready for it. The specs have gone up as well since the original video. The upgrades are listed here for anyone interested (this link takes you to their update page on Kickstarter)
 
This was supposed to be manufactured approx 12 miles from me. Drive past the place quite often. Even thought about putting some money in when I first saw it.

The people behind this seem to have a lot of questions to answer, not least were has £2.3 million pounds gone. Wouldn't be surprised to see an investigation into this.

Kickstarter are less than sympathetic, even telling people who have lost money that they hope they will continue to support other projects on Kickstarter.

Not yet another KS scam?

The initial idea behind KS was fantastic but I wouldn't back ANYTHING via KS any longer. KS's role/response is always the same. Not us Guv!

So avoid the crowd funding company like the plague
 
I almost went for this but swerved, thank goodness, at the last minute. The difference between the 'backers' price' and the predicted retail wasn't worth taking the risk.

Yeah, this is going to make me think twice about investing in future - and I didn't even back this one.

There are worries over the Digital Holga campaign, which I did back. Also, bad early reviews. :-(

Potential of small saving v risk = not worth it.
