Well, having picked up my first Zeiss lens I thought that I would post a quick review.

The lens is a manual lens so in the Nikon fitting it is AIS, this means that matrix metering does not work but spot and center weight metering does, the aperture is adjusted by the aperture ring and not by the control dial on the camera (there is a new version due that is CPU chipped and will allow matrix metering and aperture adjustment via the control dial on the camera)

The lens is manufactured by Cosina in Japan for Zeiss. The lens is constructed total from metal, not a sign of any plastic anywhere and comes complete with a metal lens hood.

The minimum aperture is f16 and the aperture are in 1/2 stops. The minimum focus distance is .45m and the lens weighs 330g and has a filter size of 58mm.

Both the aperture ring and the focus ring are like silk, the aperture ring movement has definite and precise stops while the focus throw is approximately 260 degrees.

Manual focus takes a little bit of getting used to but the focus indicator light makes it easier. I do not know if it is my imagaination or not but the view finder seems brighter with the lens on.

Any way a few photos of the lens (excuse the photos not the best, but a little lens porn for you):D

Front lens cap, even this has a quality feel about it.

the next couple are just a bit arty of the lens.

First shot I took with it, messed up a little as I shot this at ISO 400 at f1.4.

I will do this as soon as I can set a shot up.
