I met with my father yesterday and he gave me a little sentimental present that he used to use when he was young and into photography.

He is a believer that that film is real photography.

It also came with the original russian leather case and body protector. It needs a really good clean, however it all works like new!

This thing is built like a tank.

I remember Zenits very well. Built like a tank. Run some film through it and post up the results.
 
I never had one myself, but friends of mine had Zenits (and/or Prakticas) and I've used them a few times. One friend had quite a few of his pictures taken with a Zenit published. The cameras are good workhorses :)
 
I had a Zenit B with a 58mm f2.0 Helios lens, which was similar to yours, but without the light meter.
I got rid of it when I got a Nikkormat Ftn in the late 70s.
From what I recall, the lens on the Zenit was amazing, and the camera was built like a brick ***** house !!

I had an EM a while back, built like a tank and weighed about the same as one :) good reliable camera for me though even after all these years, even the meter operated well :) I didn't really use this lens on it though, I had another smaller version of the Helios that I preferred as my copy pictured was abit stiff focussing :)

Happy memories :) My first slr was a Zenit B (no metering), then bought a Zenit TTL, then a fuji somethingorother. Still got the Zenit B somewhere. Heavy, brickhouse build quality, took some good photos with them too, had to work harder to get good results than now, but it was all good fun.
 
... you might get some further comments if it was in the Film and Conventional area...:thumbs:

My first was a Zenit E (same for lots of people I should think). I actually believe, for me at least, the working harder for results, when everything was manual (plus the cost of film) made me a better photographer. I think I used to spend longer working out the shot than I have ever had to since. It may be nostalgia as I am not sure I still have too much material I shot then (around 1980) but if memory serves I did some quite good stuff.
 
That brings back memories! My first slr was a Zenit E. Had that for a while until I brought a secondhand Spotmatic (still got it although don't use it now).

This looks like the same camera as I used for the black and white shots during my GCSE photography course back in 1997. I also have two practikas with lenses etc also knocking around somewhere :)

Sorry for posting a pic of my own but I had to dig one out. This is a "snap" of my old camera set up :D

My first SLR was an EM, good camera for the price and great to learn the art of photography with.
