Zenit ES Photosniper lens to Canon EOS 1000D?

Hi,

Relative inexperienced photographer needs assistance!

I've had a Canon EOS 1000D for some time and always wished I'd got a bigger lens but didn't want to spend the money. The camera goes everywhere round the world with us so it would be good to use a bigger lens now and then.

I'd completely forgotten about an old camera I'd bought off my sisters partner, mainly because it looked odd and interesting, the camera is a Zenit ES with Photosniper in the box.

I wondered if it was possible to connect the Photosniper lens to the 1000D?
If so what would I need? Please bear in mind i'm a relative novice, so please no technical jargon :)

I'm sure the photosniper was quite odd in that the camera was quite heavily modified to work conveniently with the lens, I'm not sure if that means the lens was non standard in anyway, I've some info at home somewhere and will try and find it later.

Others may jump in first.

PS: The lens will at least need an adaptor to connect properly anyway

Hi Nigel,

I believe the Zenit photosniper is only compatible with the Zenit ES that actually comes with the Photosniper - I read about it in Amateur Photographer, there was a section on unusual lenses.
 
pretty sure its just a long M42 len's. With a funny Rifle mount. try and take it off the camera by just unscrewing it. If it just unscrews, then chances are that its a M42 mount. Then go on Ebay get a M42 to EOS Adaptor, they cost like 3 quid!

Just that you won't be able to use the trigger to fire the shutter. Doesn't that very much defeat the point of it all?

Also I wouldn't recommend taking it anywhere near populated areas....hardly need to say that though.
 
cello, the point of it was to get an old 300mm lens that i had lying around to work on my dslr that only has a 18-55mm lens, not fussed about looking like a terrorist and using a trigger!

Oh yes I see... sorry about that.

Would be interested to see how you get along with that... I must admit I would love to try one, looks like a nice toy :lol:
