I'm going to the Abu Dhabi F1 GP this weekend and don't want to carry a lot of gear so I'm just taking my 15-85 and one of either my 70-300IS or 100-400L. I would prefer to take the 70-300 for weight reasons and am wondering if it will be OK or will I be dissappointed if I don't take the 100-400?

There will always be a compromise IMO, lighter but not as much reach and not as "sharp" but if you are worried about the weight then I'd take the 70-300 and get a 1.4x extender to give you the little bit of extra reach.
 
Thanks, however I don't think the 70-300 is compatible with extenders, although I may be wrong.
 
Given the size of the run offs for F1, I'd take the 100-400.
