Maybe behind the scenes, it was initially offered to Sidar but he refused?
6 months residential training may not be a good idea when trying to have a baby with his wife.
Apple's raw handling is done at the OS level so it's Apple app agnostic (as Chappers alludes to). Photos and Aperture call on OS functions to process raw files.
Apple have stated that support and OS compatibility for Aperture will end after Yosemite; from then on, it's Photos only.
Also, if...
It's very promising. The Beta is a bit buggy (as you'd expect) but the team seem to respond to bug reports impressively quickly.
It renders quickly and there's evolving plug-in support. I suspect I shall be ditching Photoshop when it's released.
Thanks Denis, Kevin and Mike.
Thanks Jason. I connected the Speedlight to a Nikon cord which meant I could keep the TTL and HSS functions. I held the flash in my left hand in front of me and pointing up with my right hand holding the camera.
When you use HSS on a Nikon, you can use high...
Thanks for the kind comments, all.
Thanks for posting that Thomas. It's a good point but these things are always trades-off. The money that the NT get when you visit the Farnes helps preserve the habitat for Terns and other seabirds. In other words, they're better off with visitors than...
These are always tough to PP as their eyes are so small and difficult to see against their black plumage.
This looks to me to be a little more brown than black. Guillemots are dark chocolate brown but razorbills, like puffins, should be black. My monitor's calibrated but it's possible that it...
A few Arctic Terns attacking me on Inner Farne.
Because they came so close as they tried to peck my eyes out, as they do, I was able to use my 24mm f/2.8D. I also used an off-camera SB900 Speedlight in high speed sync mode (so I was able to use flash at 1/1000s to control the sky exposure)...
Nice one. The difficulty sometimes is to pick one! They come at all angles from everywhere.
I'll be there this Friday for my second trip this year; I did a combined Bass Rock/Farnes trip in June.
Thanks for the kind comments, all.
It was a happy accident that I was "forced" into using my 50. I was helped by the reasonably good weather which meant I could shoot high shutter speeds at f/8 and low ISOs.
In future, doing the same trip again (and I will be; it's great), I'd take my 24-70...
I went to Bass Rock a few weeks ago. The diving gannets were too close to accurately frame and follow with the 70-200 but luckily I had my trusty Nikon 50/1.8G in the bag. It was on my D800E so I could crop when needed, too.

The statement that Apple were working with Adobe to help the transition to Lightroom was originally posted on TechCrunch (which is where the story broke) but that statement has since been withdrawn. Adobe however are increasing their support to aid migration.
From my POV, I really don't know...
