The ef-s 60mm is also a good length for portrait shoots. I recently bought the 100L macro and really don't see much difference from the 60mm which I am about to sell, however the 60mm won't fit on my 6D.

The Time and Juxtaposition images work well, though maybe a polariser or a tweak in Photoshop to make the sky a darker blue would improve them (like the colour of your wider image of the building). I also think a shallower dof for juxtaposition would help the monument to stand out better.
