jpw,thank you so much for your valued advice!, in d80 guide manual it says type( G and d) fit, lenses, but the 70x 200mm is an (f) fit.thats what put me off. regards.

Specialman, my thanks for your advice,one thing bugs me ,what is the difference between non-full-frame body and full frame , and if the D80 is half frame what will the landscape images be like with this camera having the 12-24mm on? sorry me being a newbie to wide angle i don't know these things.
