    Bee's Breakfast

Interesting....I didn't know that about the tongue.. and what about that slightly flat looking abdomen? Can you tell which hoverfly it is from this picture? Anyway, Hoverfly's Breakfast just doesn't have the same ring to it does it? ;)

    Bee's Breakfast

Thanks very much. Thanks, yes they do tend to have the annoying habit of moving around just when you see a good shot don't they? Thank you, taken with a tamron 90mm macro and a raynox250. This is an uncropped photo, so as you can see it gives pretty good magnification.

    Bee's Breakfast

It is!! ugly tongue isn't it? The white stuff is part of the flower though, you can see another in its armpit. Thanks, yes I was quite keen on the blue and the dark green behind...

    Mr Jaculator

Thanks.. Yes it does look like one doesn't it?, but my book says it is Gasteruption jaculator, which seems not to be an ichneumon wasp.

    Love is in the air!

Nice shot... Could you have squeezed in a slightly smaller aperture just to get their heads in focus throughout? I like it though...I like it!

The white form of the "goldenrod spider" (Misumena vatia)

I really like this picture - the composition is great.... What is that spider sitting in?

A Small specimen, but I love these beasties...

    Hoverface

I'm afraid that that is about as good as I can get it at this magnification! I was down to a tiny f20, my flash isnt powerful enough to light a smaller aperture and focus stacking is out of the question with this busy chap....

    Symmetry

Yes, it goes on top... I did some measurements on focusing distance and magnification at various focussing points with and without the raynox150 and 250 on my particular lens which you may find interesting HERE According to those results the end of the lens was 45mm from the fly which gave...
