Anybody phoned up to ask what exactly they do have in stock @ 25% discount ?
If I'm honest, its a scam, sharp practice, call it what you want, its not the sort of behaviour that will make AJPurdy my first port of call if I need some equipment in the future.
It reminds me of the cheap deals Aldi did on their Medion electronis equipment or Sony shops New Years day sales, the difference is they print the quantities of stock they're offering at the discount they're offering, so at least you know what the odds are.
AJPurdy can eat my shorts..I'm amazed at the number of AJP defence posts.
Anybody phoned up to ask what exactly they do have in stock @ 25% discount ?
I have, once I'd ascertained that the lens I wanted wasn't in stock I asked about a few others and then suggested to the girl that if they had a stock list she could email it to me and I'd post it here, but she declined
Maybe they should pay for a decent website ?
The new store means nothing - it will have been planned, mortgaged and signed for when credit was flowing easily and sales were bouyant. The High Street today is a very different place.
I went there this morning. Just one car outside when before there was 6 or 7, so no staff in? There was some bloke loading his car when i pulled up, he went inside and closed the shutter down. He wouldn't let me in and didnt want to talk to me so i left.
Agreed. I can't see why you'd want to have a new store (and it looks HUGE on their website) but have no stock for it, make no sense at all to me.
Shame if they gone because they have quite good prices on some stuff and I've probably put a couple of £k their way over the years... but this feels like the death knell.
Over-expansion at the wrong time, just as the DSLR market is perhaps plateauing?
With hardly any stock left on the website now.. feels like they've gone.
(feels a bit like the death throes of DigitalCamera.com who went earlier this year to me, big discounts then "Puff!")
Dixons have posted a £30m loss for the last six months of trading.
the bit that really puzzles me, and why i think they are doomed is they have been in them premises since sometime in summer.
How can they suddenly not have room for the stock, they always managed at the smaller premises, so now it should be a doddle.
How many companies sell off everything because the website is getting redesigned.
I dont think they would screw anyone, after all they have been canceling orders they cant fulfill and not taking payment.
But i do feel they are discounting to get rid of it all before the administrators come in.
Hope you are wrong but that was the feeling I had even when talking to the young lady today....
.....
This credit crunch is going to have quite a few casualties i think.
With regards to their clearance sale, it looks like I may have been another of the lucky ones.
I ordered the Canon EF 12mm II and 25mm II extenders on my CC (just in case) on Tuesday and they arrived today. Saved £47 compared to WHE and even cheaper than Kerso.
I went there today to collect a printer, when I asked are they shutting down I was told they are having a huge clear out and the website is being re designed and then will be back.
If you were launching a new website then i) you would develop in in parallel to operating the exisiting site and simply switch between the two when the new one is ready, ii) you would not stop selling goods and taking orders, or run down your order take during this transition as you still have a business to run and staff to pay etc., iii) you would not clear out perfectly saleable stock at mega-discount prices especially when having just moved to larger premises - clear outs are for overage goods you can't sell.
Sadly, I think they are sailing very close to the end. I hope not, but the signs aren't good.
I can say that at least 1 lucky person is getting a Nikon 70-200 for the discounted price (unfortunately not me I hasten to add)
Anyone get any £1k Nikkors with the 25% off?
