TP Day 2011 - Entries Thread - Slideshow now out!

"Take one picture on Saturday the 2nd July that represents your photographic passion with one image"! Hmmmm, OK - here we go then ....

My current 'passion' (or should that be 'frustration') is wildlife photography. Coaxed into it by my Wife (I much prefer planes & cars!) I now find myself obsessed with getting 'that' picture of whatever it is. One specific target that has so far eluded me is the Kingfisher. I am insanely jealous of those who have the luck/skill/patience (delete those that do not apply) to capture and post some truly fantastic images of the KF, but for me a few blurry, distant, grainy, out of focus shots is the best I have been able to manage.

So, in the spirit of the challenge, this picture best represents my passion. While at our local nature reserve we happened across a feeding KF. There it was, right in front of us, in a viewfinder-filling perfect position! But in an instant it had spotted us and it was off - zipping across the lake.

Normally a picture like this would not see the light of day, but it represents everything that is frustrating, sorry inspiring, about my 'passion' … so near yet so far!

I love being at the beach , even better when the kids have had a great time and enjoyed themselves.

all chilled for the evening, and best of friends, even though one doesn't belong to me taken at 8.20 last night, the whole reason for picking a DSLR up in the first place, my compact just couldn't keep up:)

Right, final choice, this one! I took loads especially for this, but couldnt decide which to pick.
Im going to go for this one as it is a 30 sec long exposure and also a sunset, which I guess at the moment are my main passions.
The whole sitting and waiting for the right moment for 2-3 hours and then pressing the shutter hoping those 30 seconds do what you want them to do. You get maybe 3 chances before the sun is gone. The element of relaxation at the beautiful surroundings and the adreniline of getting the shot both flowing through your body at the same time. A truely exhilerating experience and a very enjoyable evening for me, which if it werent for TP I wouldnt have bothered doing. Im so glad I did!

Taken at 09.08pm Saturday 2nd July 2011 at the Purton Wrecks on the banks of the River Severn, Gloucestershire.

Nikon D700, Nikon 16-36mm f/4 VR @16mm, ISO 200, F/22, 30 seconds with a LCW 9 stop ND filter. Edited in Lightroom.

I was at a friends house for a bbq last night. I was hoping for a decent sunset but it started to cloud over so I shot this before the light was lost (shot at 20.42pm). Lots of midgies around too.
This is the view from her front garden, lucky sod :p

I hesitated to put this one on as I know my landscapes leave a lot to be desired. Still, I enjoy being out there & trying to do better.:)

Hi All
Was busy up until 7:30 last night and didn't have anything in mind to shoot, so decided to take a country scene. Took a few shots until dusk and was heading home and saw this harvester thing in field which I thought was a bit unusual - Taken at last minute (23:27 to be exact) so hope you all like.
Will send Hi-res soon. - Now sent.

Taken in the sweltering mid-day sun on Sat 2/7/11 not long after noon (13:23) at Felinheli, North Wales. I took the opportunity to add a tilt-shift effect in PP as I don't use it that often and it seems to work with this shot. I suppose that sums up my passion for photography too - I love the experimentation and learning.

I think I should have got to the field a bit earlier and took this at 7.00 pm just as the light was going down.

Here is my submission - taken at 5:35pm. Holy Trinity Church, Bosham. I didn't set out to photograph anything in particular, I just enjoy wandering about and seeing what I come across. I only stopped at Bosham in the first place to visit the Ice Cream Van :D

There are some stunning photos in here. I have to admit I almost forgot as I had a really busy day yesterday, remembered in time to grab the camera before taking the dog for his evening walk.

Can't wait to see the slideshow.:)

Taken at 11.46pm on 2nd july 2011... i nearly missed the deadline... i had 15 mins prep as i wasn't convinced by the strength of shots taken during the day of whether they represented my passion in photography... then in that 15 mins of blazing inspiration this was born....

I've always been edging more to the surreal with my photo52 challenge, looking for different angles, and the lastest theme has tapped a vein like none other i've seen in my thinking... enjoy (y)

hi-res will be in the post shortly...

Here's mine. Taken at 23.16 at Jodrell Bank during the Flaming Lips gig. They used the dish itself to show a series of images about Jodrell Bank and what it stands for. It was pretty spectacular, as was the gig I might add.

My passion is wildlife and nature. I planned to shoot something in my garden and the day before, the roses were looking good. I decided to go out earlyish while the light was good, but the roses were all past their best :(

So unfortunately, I am posting the same subject matter as last year's TP day, albeit a different species.

Taken at 8.40am.

Whoa! The variety of images coming in is simply superb!

Mine is below. 3 hours of togging at the nature reserve drew a blank so had to look elsewhere.

For me, for the time being, photography represents a very calming, entertaining and relaxing influence. I hope in a way I have conveyed that in the image.

Thank you all for submitting such quality images - it is heartwarming to see so many contributing back to the forum.

Hi folks, first post, my passion is natural hist/wildlife, but sometimes you have to take a lunch break and sitting on the castle hill in Aberystwyth, 70-200 on the 40D and cheese butty in hand, the wife said "ooh there's a Kite over there . . .", couldn't resist it really :)

Oh wow! This is where I grew up, lived in Croxely Green and used to walk to the pool in Cassiobury Park.....only back then it was a fairly grebby rectangular pool and I got a fishing hook stuck in my toe whilst paddling once :( .........looks like it's improved a little since then :) Lovely shot of your daughter, great exposure considering all that bright light and water!

My usual thing is street photography, and especially candid street portraits, so when I set out to spend the day at the Dancing City event at Canary Wharf (part of the Greenwich & Docklands International Festival), I thought I was sunk - no way was I going to get a street photo today, I thought.

And then at about 2:40pm I spotted this guy over by the Pret a Manger. And I knew I had my shot. OK, he's a dancer but he's not performing, he's waiting to go on. By a cafe. Near the street. And that's "street" enough for me. :D

Loving this thread so far... :)
