Sirch, understand where your coming from, I used a 50mm lens for this shot focusing on the milky way core which is the brightest area of the visible milky way making the image look brighter than the normal wideangle shots we tend to see:) mattyg, I used a Nikon d800 and Nikon 50mm...

    Thanks for the comments guys. JBW, I entered the Astronomy Photographer of the year in 2014 but didn't get shortlisted. One of my images of Venus rising did get used in their advertising campaign sets. I do intend to enter some this year maybe including the above image for the people and space...

    Seahorse, I used long exposures of around 20-30 seconds to increase my chance of capturing the lightning. The main cloud structure had just passed over me so I knew a strike was imminent:)
