The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Sure: https://www.flickr.com/photos/andwhynot/33913536560/ I posted it here via the BBcode and thought the image was clickable but seemingly not.

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Did a part-ex with a couple of Nikon lenses for the FE 28mm last week, then headed to Dorset at the first sign of clear skies. Conditions were perfect and the lens performed better than I could have hoped. This is a single 15 second exposure from my A7s, wide open (f/2) at ISO6400. Small, light...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Did you get sorted? I've recently made the decision to sell mine. About to list it in classifieds. ETA listing: https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/sony-zeiss-fe-16-35mm-f-4-etc.650152/

Not the usual time to go to the lake!

Decent blend imo, looks pretty honest. You've got to be careful with grads/ filters generally as they can introduce flare, especially over long exposures. Study your test shot(s) before committing or you might get home and discover artefacts that make your shot unusable. Don't let that stop you...

South-West England Chesil beach - Milky Way

The coast from Swanage to Portland has become somewhat of an attraction for night sky photographers. Sure, the quality of the darkness is better through much of Wales or Scotland but Dorset is an accessible alternative. That said, Chesil Beach is largely featureless and *may* be affected by...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Used the GM 24-70 & 85 for literally a couple of snaps each at a Sony event earlier this week. Big but easy enough to get on terms with and not imbalanced, which is a little surprising given the diminutive size of the A7x bodies. 85 snapped to focus in -4 EV (according to subsequent exif) but I...

    Normanton Church

I'll commend you for getting out and shooting something, it's not always easy to find the motivation at night and especially so at this time of year. Fair play to you. As for the shot, in isolation I like the silhouetted church-like structure dead centre. However, knowing the location from...

    Beginner V24 light wand

A light wand. Specifically, RGB LEDs that shine through a light-catching perspex rod. Approx 3ft long, made 10yrs ago or so by LED Lenser but now discontinued & highly sought after. Possible to create similar effects with a home-built version.

    `Frosty Llangynidr` Brecon Beacons

Truly intriguing. Great spot, well caught.

    Field at night-Critique/advice please!

I have no experience of that lens nor am I up to date with reports about its characteristics. It may well have a reputation for bad coma, but what's showing across much of the frame is star trails. The apparent trailing towards the centre of the frame is purely a coincidence of such a wide...

Using a flash near a road

Have done similar over the years: https://www.flickr.com/photos/andwhynot/2946734025/ As said by most other posters, you shouldn't have a problem affecting other drivers if you approach it with common sense as well as photographic ingenuity. The thing that's easy to overlook re long...

    Critique Interior Car Shot

Looks like a fairly well judged exposure. Quite often the cause of softness around the dials & car interior will be a poorly mounted camera. Any movement of the tripod in any direction will cause blur, so make sure yours is well braced. I put the two front seats in exactly the same position...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I have a single EX-Pro and wouldn't buy another. Doesn't last as long in use- maybe a 10-15% shortfall against the Sony OE. The bigger issue, though, is that it doesn't hold its charge very well before use. At times it'll register a drop from 100% to 65-70% just from sitting in my case.

Scenic shot of the Super moon

Nice, John. I toyed with heading to Halnaker for the eclipse element but ended up elsewhere- wasn't as sure of the possible angles/ compositions when the moon would be higher in the sky, whereas you've done a great job as it rose. There's a so-called 'supermoon' every year (real term...

Am I too late? Milky Way

It's possible, but not always. I guess that's what you're alluding to. Several considerations: Easier with FX than DX as field of view is greater. Compositions will be limited as the most striking imagery comes from the brightest part of the milky way. For us, that sits on and towards the...
