Blimey - are Harrisons still going? I'm guessing it's the same family run shop that I used as a student in the 1980s. Was it Ron Harrison in those days or am I having a senior moment?
I've been using the Darkroom UK for years and have always had good results. They just revamped their website to make ordering film devving online easier, freepost to send the film, £2.00 postage return.
Xtol for most films because it's a great all round fine grain dev AND doesn't contain hydroquinone, which stinks :gag:
For high speed film I use Tmax dev as it suppresses the base fog quite well.
Then Ilford Rapid Fix, and a nice drop of Kodak Photflo
The increase comes into effect 1st Feb with 20% on paper and roll film. Sheet film +12%. I had a quick look at Adox materials at Silverprint and see they have whacked their prices up too so there's no escaping it. It's all down to China gobbling up resources.....
Hey guys - don't get me wrong! It's just that I've read so many posts complaining about results from labs that I was just trying to head someone off at the pass. No offence intended though I can see that I should have been a bit more tactful:(
But yes - cheap means the lab is cutting quality to...
It never fails to amaze me how folks leap at the chance to save money getting film processed then complain like hell because the results are rubbish. If you've some numpty slinging film into cheap chemicals on a knackered old second hand processor you get crap results.... Is your photography...
Looks like you have plenty suggestions but I've used The Darkroom UK Ltd with good results. They print on Ilford Galerie plus Art papers and you can order online.
Re Water meter. Remember you can use that rinse water on your garden after - perhaps not on the veg - but at least you get to use the water twice.
Certainly use the latex/vinyl gloves or you hands will stink of fix for days!
Have fun
For sure - a general observation. I've overheard people saying "Pah! You're not still shooting film are you?!" and that I find a bit baffling as much as comparisons in magazines where presumed experts have been trying to prove the resolving power of the latest chip is greater than some film or...
Aha - this is turning into the old Digital v Film war. Complete tosh is generally spoken on both sides. DiddyDave is quite right - if you don't like smelly chemicals then don't use them but enjoy using your digital camera. Enjoyment/pleasure is what photography is for 95% of people and I hate...
I've sent mine to The Darkroom UK Ltd for a few years with good results. http://www.the-darkroom.co.uk Others I've read about include Peak Imaging and Palm. I think OneVision are concentrating on schools photography these days but I haven't used them since they screwed up a C41 film years ago.
Just a general response regarding 120. I still process 120 BW in Patterson tanks and I believe Ilford-Harman are distributing them at least overseas now - try the Harman site I'm sure they have links. MrCad sells second-hand gear.
Any colour stuff is too much hassle to bother with so I post...
I can see the problem! I use http://www.the-darkroom.co.uk but they don't help themselves as they don't show their prices on their website.
Neg film scanned to 4.5Mb is £7.60
Tran film scanned is £9.10 - and that includes postage. Good company judging by the results. They seem to advertise...
