Beginner Canon Digital Photo Professional vs Lightroom queries

I have a related question ... I've used DPP happily for many years, using the Gimp for any more extensive image processing (you can see what a tightwad I am), but I really would like to get a better grip on organising my photos. If only DPP had a concept of multiple Collections or Albums or...

    Translucent bonnets

I've seen photos of (usually classic) cars where the bonnet is translucent and the engine visible beneath. Presumably done from combining an image with the bonnet up with another with the bonnet down, and in pp masking/layering. Presumably this can only be done with front-opening bonnets...

    Recovering damaged jpegs

I have managed to recover a load of photos from a damaged SD card, but many of the files are themselves damaged. Typically the thumbnail is ok but the full image displays with the bottom part of it grey or discoloured. A Google search reveals a few software tools that claim to be able to...

?? taking pics with pc attached??

Can you please clarify what you're trying to do ? It sounds to me that you were after all using EOS Utilities, with your camera tethered. Are you saying that you wanted the images saved on the camera's memory card and not on the PC ? I cannot imagine why anyone would want to do that, but I'll...

    Photography Ban on Glasgow Subway?

So if I took a photo on my phone of someone in the act of committing a crime, or who had just done so, then presumably I couldn't hand it over to the authorities 'cos I'd incriminate myself ?

    One from RAF coningsby

Doesn't really work for me, I'm afraid - it needs to be separated from the horizon.

    Panning

The title of this thread got me a bit confused ... I was expecting it to be about panning !

    wire wool spinning

Confess I didn't know what you were talking about until I put "wire wool spinning" into Google (other search engines are available). Does that not answer your question ?

?? taking pics with pc attached??

I really cannot understand folk who don't bother to look at what they got (free) with the camera, and are happy to splash out on software products rather than - for example - lenses or other equipment. Have you tried running EOS Utilities yet ? It runs absolutely fine on my PC with my...

What have you done to your gear because you were bored?

Yeah, but did you know that fruit flies like a banana :lol:

    What Book

Suggest you do a search through the site - I've seen quite a few threads on books just recently. Paterson's gets very mixed reviews. Dummies don't seem very popular and neither do the model-specific ones.

    Gorillapods

I have one and am a bit frustrated with it. Wrapping the legs around a horizontal railing, for instance, it's difficult to get the head exactly how you want it. Much easier when I mount my Manfrotto head on it, but then it's a lot bulkier.

Anyone know where these were taken?

Blimey - not an expected response ! The Ordnance Survey produce a number of ranges of maps covering the whole of the UK at various scales. You can find them in WH Smiths, Waterstones, garages, motorway services, etc. One of the most popular series is the Landranger 1:50,000 series. They have...
